Hi Ilene
Sorry but I am really slow on the uptake here.
A DVD contains files that are for all intents and purposes Mpeg2 files.
To import these to video studio is a simple method of insert Digital Media…..
Video Studio will import the files as Mpeg2 using the properties within the disc.
Using other software to rip the DVD should also be set up to extract Mpeg2 files.

I know this post has been ongoing for quite a while, but I still don’t get it, why are you using Mov files?
MOV file to MPG or to VS for edit or to make DVD

Re: MOV file to MPG or to VS for edit or to make DVD
Agree on all... Just getting some source files for projects from someone who only uses MAC that are Mov. Sometimes don't need to edit them and I want to author the DVD myself. I asked him for mpg and they didn't work so hence the thread began....
A work around was to ask him to author a DVD and then thru VS I would "import from digital media" , ( this is what I called "rip") ..... It was just an extra step and I was concerned about losing quality once I burned that imported mpg file back out to DVD.... But I don't think you really do...
