VS X4 Audio Problem

Post by bettyb »

I created a number of MPEG–4 files on line all with a stereo audio track. If I try to import these files and look at import box properties tab, it doesn't show any audio track. These files play fine in X4 but naturally there is no audio track.I can see that there is an audio track in any other video program and it also plays fine in Windows movie maker on the same CPU. So, am I missing some add-on for X4 that would make it recognize the audio tracks on these files? X4 does correctly play the audio track on other MPEG–4 files. If so, any detailed advice on where to get the file and how to install into X4 would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi Betty and welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, not all mpeg-4 files are created equal. They can have different properties, particularly in the audio section. Can you please right click on one of your problem files either in the Video Studio timeline or in the library window, and copy ALL its Properties here. That way we will know what we are dealing with and hopefully be able to supply some sort of meaningful answer,

I also didn't understand what you meant when you said you created these files "online". How did you do that???

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the fast reply. I've attached a jpg of the file.

Thanks

OK. That still doesn't tell us what the original audio might have been. Where exactly did the video come from? You still didn't say exactly where you got it from...

Hi,

Here is what the properties show on the same file outside of the application.

I created the video at Flixpress.

That doesn't really help either since it still doesn't tell us what format the audio is in -- and the bitrate strikes me as not conforming to the usual ones either... Could you please do a Google search for GSpot which is tiny, freeware program which will give details of the codec in question once you have installed it and directed it at one of your clips.

Ah, so it appears your mpeg-4 files are using mpeg layer 2 audio. If so, then Corel appear to have discontinued use of that format with at least X4 and possibly also X3 (possibly because it is not part of the international NTSC DVD standard?). In other words, there is no codec in VS for it, which would explain why there is only silence.

You still haven't explained how you made your videos "online", but is it possible to create a new file using a different audio format such as Dolby or even mp3 or LPCM?

Hi Ken:
I created the video at Flixpress.

Strange think is just two week ago I used X4 to edit another video I made on this same site.
