I have been using VS for a number of years - trial of x4 now - very much the same just seems to work better.
Q1 - I created a project (test) as wide screen 5.1 sound to test how much control over suround sound.
the original video is AVI from a cannon elf - the audio is stereo - I just put the clip on the main video line and switched over
to the audio view and I proceeded to place the sound at extreams along the audio time line - first front-center - then the corners etc. On play back X4 shows me the placement is changing as programed.
I can't hear that on my computer as I have only stereo on my Acer Laptop - (I did this with stereo left right and it works and I can hear the sound image move on playback)
I saved my project using save DVD with the 16:9 widescreen 5.1 sound option choice that went ok...
I burned a dvd of this of the resulting file using the built in x4 create disc function and played it on my home theater system - the receiver shows Dolby Digital but the Surround sound movements didn't occur it was all stereo and center speaker
Any ideas on what went wrong? When I made my disk I created it with some other projects that were not 5.1 sound or wide screen but I would not expect that to make a difference.
on the side - can you use the x4 create a disc to burn an existing iso on to dvd? (i didn't see how to) and it says at the end saving projecdt but how do you reload that project later?
Thanks!

Re: 5.1 sound dvd burning x4 trial
Welcome to the forums!
I am afraid I can't help with 5.1 sound. Hopefully someone will be able to.

No. Much earlier versions of VS contained an extra utility to do this, but this was dropped some time ago. You have to use Nero or Roxy or some other program to burn an ISO file to disc. You could also Google for a program called ImgBurn.can you use the x4 create a disc to burn an existing iso on to dvd?
We are all mystified by that automatic save message. None of us here know where that file is saved to or even what it is. To actually save your project, you have to manually save it yourself with a name you will remember before closing Video Studio down. Then you will find the project in either your designated working folder in Preferences or in Documents\Corel Video Studio Pro\My Projects.it says at the end saving projecdt but how do you reload that project later?

Re: 5.1 sound dvd burning x4 trial
Thanks for the reply on the DVD Disc making aspect
I went back a looked over my test project for the 5.1 sound
The long and the short is that as saved before production of the DVD
the 5.1 position placements were still there - I had split up the video
for some transitions and effects after I had defined the sound placements
later I thought that I may have killed my sound instructions by doing so...
but not so..
However I think the big thing is I didn't turn the center speaker control down
so I think that throughout the play back the center speaker is blasting the sound
track and because it is a sort of Ambient recording with one voice singing
it makes it hard to hear the sound 'movement' from left to right to rear etc.
so I was able to turn the center speaker nearly off on my playback system
and turn the others up -and...
Yes! the sound migrated from RR to LR - FL - FL - and then center placement!
So I am happy to report that in my case the 5.1 sound works well - a bit clunky on the
creation side - but workable...
So it seems that if you want some sound effects or something to appear in the rear of the theater
as you define that sound turn off the center speaker vol control as you define the placement.
Other questions about the behavior of the Stereo tracks in the 5.1 sound scheme remain
for example - when a stereo track is placed in the rear center is it presented as a stereo track
LR - RR ? I would think so - but if placed total as LR is it only the left track that is being played and
the R track is just faded out?
more experiments on this subject are necessary - Unless you can point me to some documentation...
even so I would still try it out before embarking on a project.
