Hi... I just downloaded the trial version of paintshop pro x4. It worked for a while but the opacity sliders were extremely slow to respond. I thought this was my main problem but now every time I open the program it takes me to the register screen. When I register the screen goes white and nothing happens. If I close it the whole program closes. I have three emails thanking me for registering so I don't know why the screen pops up anymore...
Any suggestions? I was very happy to have more 16bit capabilities and I would really love to buy the program if I could get these problems solved.

Welcome to the forums,
Corel's register nag screens and the subsequent Thank you emails, are annoying. Even after purchasing the program, whenever you reinstall it, you will get the registration prompt, and it will not go away until you do press the register button, even though you have already done so.
Now here's the kicker, you really can not register a TBYB (trial) version. You must purchase it first. If you are not wanting to purchase yet, select whatever option (I don't recall off the top of my head what it really is), that allows you to skip the registration. There is an option in a drop-down menu, lower-left, allowing you to choose to have the program wait for a period of time before reminding you again.

Actually, the problem isn't just that it pops up... but it gets stuck on this screen. The window turns white if you do hit register and the program never opens. Half the time there is no option to wait to register. If that option is there, then the program will open.

This can be a problem with the database, you can click on START > ALL PROGRAMS > COREL PAINTSHOP PRO X4 > RESTORE DATABASE, then just follow the steps on the screen.
You may also want to reset the workspace. You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

Despite the white screen, have you ever received an email from Corel in response to the registration process saying you are now registered and giving you the link for the KPT filters? (I just received my boxed version, installed and registered it with no problems, and am currently downloading KPT...)

Re: X4 stuck on register screen AND opacity slider slow
Thanks for the help!
I have tried to restore database once before but it took me to the register screen which turned white and froze as usual. I will try again. Sometimes if I just keep trying it opens.
I have received several emails, but haven't received a link. I haven't purchased the product yet, and won't be if I can't get this sorted out.

Re: X4 stuck on register screen AND opacity slider slow
Well I'm experiencing basically the same registration screen problem with a new BOXED version install. The program seemed to install correctly, activate correctly, and works ok, but the registration screen goes blank and hangs indefinitely when I try to register the program. When I finally try to close the registration window it asks me if "I really want to cancel" and when I click Yes the PSP program will finally open correctly. There is now a "Thank you for registering your software" message in my inbox for each time I've tried this and my registered software list includes my copy of PSP X4, but the damned registration screen keeps coming back. The last time it happened I used the "remind me later" option so now it won't bug me for a week, but I want it to STOP bugging me.
And now I'm going to vent a little:
I've been a PSP user since the early JASC days and I've liked the program enough to keep upgrading to the new versions. That has been a good move until I made the horrible mistake of upgrading to X3. That version was a buggy nightmare that kept crashing my computer and I had to manually weed all it's bits and pieces off of my hard drive and out of my registry to get rid of it because the uninstall program crashed my computer too. I actually went to the software store to purchase Adobe Photoshop CS5, but I decided to give Corel one last chance and purchased PSP X4 instead, and I will say that it hasn't crashed my computer yet but this stupid registration problem isn't helping to restore my confidence in Corel products at all.
I was hoping that venting would make me feel better, but it didn't.
Oh, and my "Thank you for registering your software" messages don't include any links to the free KPT filters. Was that only for the download version?
Pete
