Title not centered

Post by pierrenev »

Here is my problem.
In my project (VSX4), some of my clips are 16:9, while others are 4:3. To keep the whole project 16:9, I put a black image in the first track (set at 16:9) and I add the 4:3 clips, in the everlay track. I then center and enlarge the 4:3 clip at the 16:9 frame height.
Everything works fine, except for the titles who are off to the right of the frame, after the rendering. In order to have them centered, I have to place them at the left of the center.
Why is that?
I never noticed that problem, before.
I am now using a new computer with Win7.
Any idea?
Pierre.

Are you manually centering your title, or using one of the Alignment options found on the Edit tab. What format are you rendering to? I've tried to replicate this on both my Vista and WinXP machines. However the title remains centered where I placed it. I use the alignment option.

More info: I've tried both (manually centering and with Alignment option of the Title Edit tab), with identical results.
I've also tried with a ProX4 video sample placed in the main track (#1). Again, the titles were offset in the rendred file, while they are OK in my preview window.
In all cases the final ratio is 16:9.
Could this be a conflict with my new Window system (Win7)?
Notice that I've redownloaded and reinstalled ProX4 in my new computer.
Also notice that is not a big problem for me. My 32 previous long files are finished and they came out OK.
I am only adding a short clip to one of my projects and I can, as mentioned before, adjust the title to the center by manually putting it about 15% to the left of the grid's center.
If i have other titles, I'll just copy and paste the attributes of the first one.
Yet, it would be helpfull if I knew how to correct this problem automatically.
Thanks again.
Pierre.

Just as random thought -- have you allowed non-square pixel rendering of the problem clips?

Yes, I did. I also think that my OK titles were not rendered with this option enabled.
So, I'll make a few tests WITH and WITHOUT the "non-square pixel rendering" to see if it makes a difference.
I'll let you know the results.
By the way, what is the purpose of this option?

You were right....and my previous answer was wrong!
My problem clips DID NOT have the non-square pixel rendering option clicked.
I made the test with the option enabled and the title is exavctly where I placed it (in the center).
Thanks a lot.
I still would like to know the purpose of this NSQP option.
Pierre.

This is from Wikipedia:
Most digital imaging systems describe an image as a grid of very small but nonetheless square pixels. However, some imaging systems, especially those which must maintain compatibility with Standard-definition television motion pictures, define an image as a grid of rectangular pixels in which the width of the pixel is slightly different from that of its height.

Moreover, that ratio of height and width varies between the PAL and NTSC systems.
Note that square pixels are used for video being displayed on computer screens. As I understand it, high definition video also uses square pixels.
