X4 and hardware acceleration

Post by coticj »

Hello,

I'm trying to enable hardware acceleration in videostudio x4 for encoding, but the button is just greyed out. The decoding button is enabled. I have a core i7 2600k processor and a ati hd 6950 graphics card. The online support lists DXVA as supported. So is there any way to enable this?

I believe that button is for CUDA, which is a feature on some NVIDIA video chipsets. CUDA is not mentioned in the user manual, but it is mentioned on the website.

I'm not sure about DXVA, but it might be for decoding.

The Hardware Acceleration button was originally just for Cuda-based video cards, but since the release of X4 Service Pack 1 it has become available for use by ATI Radeon video cards that have the ATI Stream technology built into them. I'm not certain if the ATI HD 6950 has Stream, but I think it does. The button became accessible for me as soon as SP 1 was installed. I hope this helps.

Thank you Larry, but I already have SP1 installed, maybe a reinstall would help? Or I'll just have to wait for SP2.

I have the Sandy Bridge system too but, I use the on board video, as my H67 MB will disable Intel's Quick Sync if a video card is installed. If you have the new Z68 chips then it is no problem. I wonder if Quick Sync is supportrd in VS Pro X4?

From my browsing, on this forum and elsewhere, it seems that X4 SP 1 probably supports Quick Sync on those motherboards containing 2nd Generation i5 and i7 processors with the Sandy Bridge 3000 series or 2000 series, respectively, graphics chipsets. It is more likely that the more powerful 3000 series graphics will be included on an i5 laptop motherboard than on a workstation i7 motherboard according to some reviewers.

However, newly released (Oct 2, 2011) i5 2nd gen laptops which have "(in)discreet" graphics with Direct X 11 support probably will not also have the Sandy Bridge 3000 series chipset with "QuickSynch" transcoding feature in addition to included Intel P6x series and 3rd party graphics with multi-monitor capability.

It's a jungle in here, trying to shop for a low bidder low megawatt setup that contains Quick Synch. :D
