Re: mxk file extension
...Ummm... Are you sure it is an mxk format, and not .mkv format (which is Matroska)?
If, as I suspect, it is the latter, then no, VS does not accept it. The following are the formats list by Corel as being acceptable: AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVCHD™, MPEG-4, H.264, BDMV, DV, HDV™, DivX®, QuickTime®, RealVideo®, Windows Media® Format, MOD (JVC® MOD File Format), M2TS, M2T, TOD, 3GPP, 3GPP2
Offhand, the only software package which accepts MKV is Pinnacle Studio... So if you wanted to use Video Studio, you would need to convert the MKV to one of the acceptable formats before inserting it for editing.

Re: mxk file extension
According to the tech specs of your camera http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/prod ... ifications
The file is MXF, which probably the raw file of your camera which is not supported by VS X4. If your camera can save a video that is supported by VS X4 then I would suggest that you adjust the settings. I would suggest that you select or save the video as mpeg file.
Here's the list of supported file format of VS X4.

Re: mxk file extension
Ah ... .mxf!! A top end video format to go with a top end camcorder!!
As you will already have seen from the list I posted above, and as Abiel confirms, it is not a format accepted by Video Studio. You would need to first convert it to a more consumer-level format like AVCHD. But for that you would need a special conversion program such as http://www.ilifesoft.com/how-to/convert-mxf-file.htm
Or you would need to use a program like Adobe Premiere, which is a professional editor which I understand can handle mxf video (since Premiere CS 3?).

Re: mxk file extension
Here's a converter for the Windows PC. I can convert MXF files with it. Even though the Movavi app doesn't have MXF as a recognized file type, you can drag and drop the files from Windows Explorer. You can also expose MXF files in Movavi by telling Movavi to show "*.* All Files" in it's Open File dialogbox.
