PSP X3 - Save As... Crash

Post by DarkWyz »

Hello,
I am currently running PSP X3 with SP4 and with the last patch that fixed the pasting of items losing the lower rows of pixels.

These patches were all installed yesterday and everything was running perfect.

Today, while doing some image editing and making multiple saves, the program suddenly shut down on me.
There were no error messages or anything, the program just completely closed.

I opened it back up, no problem, continued to work, still no issue. Then I selected Save As... and the window came up for saving, then the program closed again.

I began testing with other files, in other file locations, even attempting to run PSP as administrator (even though I am admin on my machine) to ensure there wasn't a sudden rights issue.
If I save the file, the program continues to run fine. I can even pull up the open window and look for files. It is only when I goto Save As... that it will pop-up for a second, then fully close.

This is preventing me from creating any new work.

Also, check Windows Logs for Application or System errors and there aren't any events corresponding to the crashes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jason Ramirez

I have no problem with Save As, on either Windows XP Media Center or on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I always run as a non-admin user.

A few questions:
  • How large are the images in question?
  • What file format (.jpg, .gif, .pspimage, etc.)?
  • When using Save As, are you saving to the same format as the file was originally? (For example, if the file is a .jpg, are you saving it as a .jpg, rather than as another type?)
  • Are you overwriting an existing file with Save As?
  • What, if any, other applications are running at the same time?
While answering these questions will not directly solve the problem, they might jar someone's memory.

I tried a few different image files, so they range in size. When I am back on that machine tomorrow, I will try to see if I can narrow down any thing.
Originally, I was trying to save a pspimage to png format when it crashed.

I've tried opening pspimage, jpg, and png formats then clicking "Save As..."
The explorer window that opens after clicking "Save As..." doesn't stay up long enough for me to select how I want to save. It pops-up then the program shuts down.

Only programs running at the same time would be what is in the System Tray:
Trend-Micro
Office Communicator
Daemon Tools
One Note (Note Editor)
Corel Photo Downloaded

(As the issue continued after a fresh reboot)

BTW, I am running Ver. 13.2.1.20

Also, I was wrong, it closes also if I use File, Open and the explorer window launches.

-------------------
Testing Results
-------------------
File>Open - Explorer Window opens, there is no issue, it will stay open
I selected various images in the folder, preview is shown, still no issue
If I click on the scroll bar, it crashes...

I may have found a possible cause, seems to be an issue with that location as I just tested the explorer window, opening through another program (i.e. Word)
It loads every file okay, then crashes when I open the picture folder

The issue, at this time, seems unrelated to PSP, sorry for the inconvenience

fyi, the issue was due to an image saved as pspimage.
I have others saved as that type, but evidently, this one didn't save correctly and it corrupted the folder.

Once I removed that file, the folder launches, no problem.
