i dispute that version of events Cassel

if you are zoomed in that far you aren't going to know if there is anything else on that layer so you are going to have to hit the flip horizontal button and hope for the best. previously you would have just selected the bit you were interested in and it flipped as you would have expected.

but most importantly if you do want to flip a whole layer you can't. that's the big issue. it's trivial to replicate the new functionality with the old design. but almost impossible to replicate the old functionality with the new design.

it's ridiculous. i'm at a loss as to who thought it was a good idea in the first place.

I dispute that claim that it's trivial one way and nearly impossible the other. The process is simple and now all of those who read it here can inform others. And not everyone who wants the new functionality with think of your "trivial" way to make it as easy as a one-click solution.

In fact use of the script that places imperceptible dots in the corners of the canvas for when you want to copy and paste something in place in a new layer or image would make this function just like the old method. There are just as many work-arounds for this new way as there are for the old way and all it takes is a little time and thought and little to no time spent freaking out.

No one is denying that they should have left the old functionality alone. But the new functionality as a built-in option is a good thing. The fact that we still have the old functionality, in a horrible way, is workable. And as a community it won't be hard to pass on this handy dandy bit of information. Demand the old functionality be returned to the menu, that I agree with, just don't make the difference out to be worse than it actually is.

a script that places imperceptible dots in each corner is not even approaching a solution.

I agree with you Cassel. I remember the first time I tried flip and mirror many years ago and was surprised to find that the duplicates ended up on the other side of the image. I expected them to be adjacent just like you. I eventually got used to the idea, since there was nothing I could do about it, and found a way to make the way it worked useful. What it seemed to be doing was flipping or mirroring that entire quarter of the image, not just the object on the layer. I also agree that both options would be nice to have for different situations. However, I think it is easier to align two objects with each other than it is to try to eyeball placing objects in the four corners manually, especially if they're not positioned all the way into the corners of the image.

I think they definitely have both their use. I just worked on a script to replicate that "flip on itself" way that X4 works, for other versions (where we might have initially expected that behavior but got used to the other). Then, i`ll make one script for X4 to flip/mirror the "old way". Clicking on Image > Flip or clicking on a bound script to do the same would not be any harder. I'll post here when both scripts are ready for download. Hopefully, everyone will find use of their prefered way of working the flip/mirror command.

I finally made those little scripts. They are available in my store (but they are 100% FREE). That is just where i gather them all. Thanks to Suz Shook who coded 2 of them (she made a better version than what i had done, although it was still working ok).
Grab it here: http://creationcassel.com/store/index.p ... cts_id=246

Now, you can have BOTH mirroring and flipping options in ANY PSP version you have. Instructions are also included so you can bind the scripts and place them directly in the Images menu, alongside the other "default" one.

A big question..since I have scripted the mirror and flip from Jasc 9..
I can't use any trusted scripts in X4 any ideas..
Cheers
