in X4...seems they keep making the Organizer worse and worse (why I still use X). When I drag an image from the organizer to Edit and then want to edit another image, it closes the first image and I don't want it closed. How do you have multiple images open in Edit from the Organizer?
Thanks!

It's not the organizer. You probably have Tabs turned on by default. Go to WINDOW/TABBED DOCUMENTS and "un-check" that option. Then you can have multiple images on the same workspace open at the same time.

Re: multiple images in Edit
Jaxman I don't think that's what they are talking about. In X4 when you switch between modes, the currently opened images get closed. So tabbed view or not moving an image from Manage to Edit and then going back to Manage (thinking you have to) closes out the old image and makes it so you can only have one image opened at a time.
This does not sound like a "windowed" vs "tabbed' thing.
So I hope I can explain this very quickly.
Manage tab is where you organize, preview, label, tag, and review all of your photos. Essentially Manage them.
The Organizer in X4, unlike X3, is once again just a palette that you can turn on or off (X2 and earlier) so you don't need to be going back to the Manage section to get more photos.
Yes it is annoying that switching between modes kills the previously opened images but the new workflow design is good enough that it works around this issue unless you have a habit of going back to the Manage tab as many X3 users probably are.

Re: multiple images in Edit
I guess I am confused. If I have an image open in MANAGE mode and switch to ADJUST mode, the image I had open is still open. If I then switch to EDIT mode, the image is still open. The "Organizer" is available in each of these modes. In EDIT mode I can open more images in the same workspace if I have the Tab function turned off, otherwise each new image is opened with a new tab. But my original (first) image is never closed. For MANAGE and ADJUST modes it is true that I cannot have more than one image open at a time in the workspace.

Re: multiple images in Edit
You are moving left to right but how about right to left. I said going back to Manage mode from Edit mode. The image is closed in edit mode when you go back to manage mode from edit mode. So let's say that that I have an image open and I made some edits to it. Now I realize I want to combine it with another image so I go back to Manage mode like I am used to doing in X3 it will ask me if I want to save before the image is closed.
Now I.said that the organizer as a palette fixes this problem but some will still go back to manage mode because it is what they have gotten used to.

Re: multiple images in Edit
Yes, that's exactly correct Levi.....I need to work on an image and go get another thru the Organizer so I can work on both or use parts of each.
I use v. 10 because of this "organizer" problem...because I look in the "Browser" to get images that I want to work on...sometimes I have 7 or 8 images open and working on them.
While installing X4, I saw some of the new things you can do is combine photos into one...well, how can I do that if the Edit mode closes all my images when I go back to the "Organizer" mode to find another image.....what's the point in having the "Organizer"? I might as well use windows explorer....or stick with vers. X.

OK, now I follow. I had not gone right to left, which does ask if I want to save image (and closes it). So the thing is to learn a new work flow and realize you can have the organizer on in edit mode too.
Thanks

Re: multiple images in Edit
The real issue here is Why?? Why do the open images in Edit mode have to be closed in order to switch to the Manage tab? There is no logical reason for this other than the programmers having an off day. Computers are by their very nature multi-tasking devices. How many other programs do you know of where it is mandatory to close all open files in one section before moving to another. It just does not make any sense.
I am a web designer and often have large numbers of image files open in Edit mode, in various stages of editing. Suppose I then need to open another one which happens to be in a folder of say 200 images. It makes sense to switch to the Manage tab in thumbnail mode because then I can see far more thumbnails at one time than with the thin strip across the bottom of the page in Edit mode. This cuts down on the time it takes me to find the image I require. Or at least it would if X4 did not insist I close all my other open files before doing this which would be completely impractical.
Please Corel fix this and quickly!
