Drag selection - should be an easy fix?

Post by tdew »

Hi all, I've been using photo impact for many years now, but after moving to Windows 7 I've lost a setting that is driving me crazy.

It's always been that if I made a selection, I could then drag the cut out part into a new image space and go from there. Using the "L" I could quickly and easily fill a space.

However, now when I select a portion of an image and try to drag it, only the empty selection box moves - not the image piece.

I'm sure there's a setting I'm missing, but I have searched and searched but fail to find it, or any mention of it.

I'm currently using Photo Impact Pro 13 - but have been using the program through many different versions.

At the risk of sounding like Abiel from Corel who posts occasionally here, I trust you realise that PI13 was around well before Windows 7 was a piece of binary code in a programmer's eye... While a number of users here no doubt have it working well on their Win 7 computers, I guess that with a program which is not full compatible with the OS, some strange things may happen now and then... Hopefully, though, one of those users may be able to help. Otherwise, you may have to look at other programs to do what you want since Corel in their wisdom have indicated that PI is now a dead product...

You can actually use the compatibility mode of Windows 7 but that does not always work. :)

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

Do you have the Move Selection Marquee attribute enabled? On the attribute toolbar to the right are a couple of icon/buttons that have hands on them. One of them is so you can move the selection marquee without the image beneath it.

I wish I could just get PIX3 installed. I've tried so many things and the help from Corel wasn't really much help, but they tried.
The only version I have currently installed is PIX2. I don't really use it too often these days.

Ummm... trueblue... is that a typo as I suspect it is... You are talking about PSP X2 and X3 when I think you meant PI X2 and X3... Easy to do when you are a Moderator on the PSP forum!!

Ron P - THANK YOU! I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing.

Other than that one difference, I've had no problem using the program with Win 7. It's been awhile that it's been on here though, so I don't remember if it was difficult to get it installed.

I have tried other programs, but when you have used one for many, many years, through many upgrades, it's hard to adjust.

Lol, I have PSP on the brain. Why Corel name their products almost identical is beyond me. I'm forever getting mixed up between my PSPX4 and VSX4.

Yes, it was a brain typo and should have been PIX3 and PIX2.
