VS Pro X2 video image freezes but sound continues

Post by ottawa066 »

On the DVD produced by VS Pro X2, the image of certain video clips freezes, yet the sound continues on. When the DVD playback reaches the next clip in my project, the playback resumes correctly, until it reaches the next problematic clip (in which the image freezes). There are about 4 problematic clips in the project that freeze (which contains a good dozen movie clips and several images). The freezing doesn't occur in playback during the editing in VS, only on the DVD output.

The video clips are in AVI and come from my Canon Powershot digital camera. I have done several projects and burnt several DVDs without any problem, but this one project is consistently causing me grief on the DVD output, and I'm at a loss to resolve the problem. I made several attempts at burning the DVD over several days (rebooting the PC, cleaning temp files, etc), with always the same results. It is always the same 4 clips whose video freezes, and they always freeze at the same spot (the audio of the clip does continue to play, as does the music soundtrack I added), and the video resumes once the playback reaches the next clip in the project.

Reading through various posts describing solutions for other problems, I tried to resolve the issue by using MPG conversions of my AVI clips, but I got the exact same results. In case the accompanying music tracks in MP3's were the cause (although I've used those in all my other projects without ever having issues), I converted all my music files to WAVs, but not surprisingly, this did not resolve the issue. I reinserted my AVI files in the project, and I'm struck on what to try next.

The Project Properties are as follows:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

The properties for one of the problematic video clips are as follows:
FILE
File format: Microsoft AVI files -- Open DML
File size: 131,723 KB
Frame rate: 30.000 frames.sec
Duration 71.033 seconds
Data rate: 1853.87 kbps
VIDEO
Compression: MJPEG Compressor
Attributes: 24 bits, 640x480
Total frames: 2,131 frame(s)
AUDIO
Compression: PCM
Attributes: 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono
Total samples: 3,132,570 samples

If anyone can offer potential solutions, I'd be most grateful.
