PSP X2

Post by Dicko »

Hi,

I have an licence code for X2.
Installed on Windows 7.
It said I have 30 days to try???
30 Days are now over, so stopped working.
Installed again (again with license code entered), won't start.
What can I do?

PSP X2 is not compatible with Windows 7, that can be the reason why you are getting the message that you have a trial version.

You can visit http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... patibility, to know which version of the Corel Software is compatible with Windows 7.

There is a workaround for you to make old program works on Windows 7, however we cannot assure you this is a 100% fool proof. You can use the Windows 7 Program Compatibility and the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC, which are both from Microsoft.

You can follow the steps for Windows 7 Program Compatibility from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... of-Windows

You can download and install the Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx.

You also want to consider upgrading your Corel software, since the latest version of PaintShop which is PSP X4 and is full compatible with Windows 7, you can download the 30 day full working trial at http://www.corel.com/trials. Since you have a license copy of PSP X2, then you are eligible to the upgrade pricing of PSP X4.

I have PSP X2 running on my 64 bit Windows 7 box.

I also have PSP X4 running on it. X4 isn't bad. I don't like the fact I can't customize all the buttons though. For instance, I used to be able to put buttons right next to the buttons at the top of the layers pallete in X2. Can't do that in X4. I have to modify my workflow a little bit for X4 so that's why I've still got X2 installed as well. :)

Abiel, I know the official response is that PSPX2 is incompatible but assume for just a moment that it's not on Windows 7. Now, how would you suggest they go about fixing the issue? Because while the incompatibility may be the issue it also may not be the issue. At least give an effort. You can lead off with the disclaimer that the normal options won't necessarily work but at least try.

JStanley wrote:...especially when so many people have PSPX2 running successfully on their Windows 7 systems.

The official definition of compatible just means tested, and only allows for plausible deniability.
I don't know if the original poster has the original edition of X2 or X2 Ultimate, but X2 Ultimate was once on the Windows 7 compatible list. It has since fallen off that list. I can't find the original list on Corel's site, as the old link is now dead, but someone did a copy/paste of it in the Vista/7 forum on this message board: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 93#p199638.

It is also listed as compatible with Windows 7 on the current document for X3 Ultimate version comparison: http://www.corel.com/content/pdf/psppx3 ... son_en.pdf

So, apparently, the definition of "compatible" varies over time. FWIW, I have X2 Ultimate installed and running on Windows 7 with no issues (at least no issues I didn't have with XP).
