URGENT - Need to reinstall ProX4 and MF7

Post by pierrenev »

I just bought a new computer (much faster and dedicated to video editing), running on Win7.
On my old computer, I still have my downloaded versions of ProX4 and MF7. I don't have CDs.
What do I need to do to install these programs into my new computer.
Do I need to first, uninstall them from my old computer?
Will my license numbers work?
Thanks in advance.
Pierre.

How are you going to install them if you don't have the install files? You do have them on an external drive at least don't you?

No you don't have to uninstall them off your old machine. Your serial numbers should work.

I may have the install files, somewhere, in one of my hard disks. I am not sure, since I was running out of space for my large projects.
This one of the reasons why I decided to buy a new PC. It has an internal drive of 1.5TG a six core processor and 8GB of RAM.
I am anxious to try it.
Since I have the serial numbers, I thought I could just download the install files, in stead of loooking for them, in my external drives, where I probably saved them.
I will try to go on Corel's site and try to start frome there.
I thought somone had a link where to download the files, as long as one has the serial numbers. My MF7 and VS proX4 are both registered in my name and e-mail address, at Corel's.
Thanks anyway.

You can try, but there's a difference between the (TBYB) trial versions, and a full version. AFAIK the serial numbers are not interchangeable.

I will continue to look for my download.
I am surprised that Corel does'nt provide an address to get the original files, if they get destroyed or if, by example, your equipment gets stolen or damaged.
The user book is written only for those ordering the "boxed" version. Why do they sell it by download if it is not a supported product?
I hate to spend some money on something that I already paid for. Dont' you?
I know you are a volunteer and only there to help people like me, but this is something that should be adressed by a company like Corel.
It seems that the only way I can get my software rapidly is to buy another one. Otherwise, I'll have to wait days for an answer from the support dept.
I don't think that makes sense.

Need to reinstall ProX4 and MF7 - A solution

Post by pierrenev »

I think I have found a solution for my problem.
I found the confirmation orders from Corel which were still in my e-mail box.
There is also the link there for the download, as well as the registration numbers.
So, I'll finish installing my new computer, go in my e-mail box, and click on the links for these 2 downloads (MF7 and ProX4).
Then, the downloads will be in my new computer and ready to be reinstalled.
I think that this will work.
Thanks again.
Pierre.

Sure. But surely also some responsibility rests on the shoulders of the purchaser. Since internet downloads first became possible, I -- and millions of other users -- have followed the widely recommended practice of backing up the download either on CD/DVD or had disk, or both. This is to guard against the very situation in which you now find yourself. Moreover, Corel, like many (most?) other software companies, makes the downloads available for a limited period of time, unless you pay for download insurance. But again the assumption is that the downloader/purchaser bears some responsibility for back up the download.
The user book is written only for those ordering the "boxed" version.
If you are talking about the Corel User Guide, it certainly covers the download version as well since, apart from the download itself, the programs are identical once installed on your computer... If, however, you are talking about the book written by one of our users on X4, then I don't know. I have never seen the book, and it is not a supported feature here apart from the author's own responses to people who have bought it.

Hi again,
Maybe I did not read well, but looking up on installation, in the ProX4 downloaded user guide, I only found the info regarding a CD install.
Same thing wit MF7, but I stopped looking when I remembered to look in my order receipts sent by e-mail by Corel.
I normally back up all my important downloads, but this time, I couldn't find it, on my external drives.
Anyway, I am now connected on the net with my new computer, and I'll use the e-mails sent by Corel, on my purchase date, to redownload the 2 programs and reinstall them.
I only thought you guys knew a link to Corel in the situation I was.
The reason I've put my "solution" on the forum is to help others who could be in the same situation that I was.
Most of us don't empty their mail boxes very often, and, in my case, it was helpfull.
Again, thanks for your time and advices.

Wow, I think you're somewhat lucky. Most of the time those download links sent in the confirmation emails have expiration dates, of only a few weeks. The reason we would not have such a direct link is they are very specific, directing us to the exact file(s) on their servers. One other reason why they will close these links, is they offer what's called Download Insurance. When purchased you are guaranteed a download for up to 2 yrs. It would be shooting themselves in the foot if they left those links open forever wouldn't it? ;)

Maybe I am lucky, but it worked very well. I have reinstalled MF7 and VSX4 and they are both running smoothly.
Since my products were registered and I can provide the receipt and serial numbers, I think that as a legitmate customer, I am untitled to some kind of support without buying an extra insurance (at least for a few months after my purchase).
After all, what Corel is selling is the right to use its product (dowloaded or boxed).
I think that Corel likes to sell by Internet and it must, at least, give a little bit of service to its custmers.
Maybe I am naive, but I think that companies like Corel just want to protect themselves against piracy downloads.
Again, I was not asking for favors. Just common sense and good business practices.
And, that is what I got, finally.
I am only sorry that I had to discover this solution by myself. It should be advertised on Corel's site and on the order receipt.
Anyone who keeps its order receipt and serial number (which are in the e-mails sent by Corel) should be allowed to get back its original downloads, juts by clicking the link provided.
The good thing about this is that the e-mails remain in your mail box until you destroy them.
Anyway, that solution worked, in my case, and I believe that anyone in a similar situation will get the same result.
One satisfied customer is more important than a angry "insurance buyer".

They do supply you with the download links in your original e-mail. You need to either save that remotely somehow, or print it out and keep the records.

Chances are that they won't provide you with new links because that is the "service" that you have to pay extra for. But, maybe someone on this board could message the links to you.

Heh...that "download insurance" IMO is a bit of a rip-off, because in my experience the links have allways worked. I think it is more for those folk who keep no records at all, then I guess you have to pay for someone's time to resend the links to you.

No I'm sorry to disagree. The download insurance is a valid option provided, especially for those that tend to be a little less responsible. If you just backup the download files, there is no need for either keeping the email with the links or the download insurance. I fail to see where it should be up to someone else to look after you're things. That is nothing more then a lack of responsibility. Do buy things at a store and expect them to maintain your purchases, and if you misplace them expect them to provide you with a free replacement?
