A girl can dream... if I ever got around to filling in lottery tickets, it might even come true
Thanks Russ
Canons all started out as CF cards, even the Rebels (300D). It wasn't until recent years that some cameras started migrating to SD cards. In the beginning a CF card could hold up to 2 gb and an SD card was just not up to the task. Transfer speeds were (and still are) much slower when comparing comparable SD to CF cards. If you wanted really fast you bought a microdrive (I think that's what they're called). It was almost as fast as most CF cards today. It was a miniature hard drive in the shape and form factor of a CF card. Prone to errors if you hit them or other physical damage and don't even bother trying to reuse one after it's been through the washer. But compared to CF cards of the day they were top notch, and cost a ton of money.
Limey711: the USB 3.0 card reader will be fast, but unless you have a new computer with USB 3.0 on it you won't be able to take advantage of it... until you buy a new USB card or a new computer with one built in. USB 2.0 is the norm.

On my 4 year old Dell I added a USB 3.0 expressCard adapter, 4 port USB 3.0 hub, and USB 3.0 Card Reader/Writer. Relatively inexpensive and works amazingly fast.
