PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Hi. I purchased PSPX4 Ultimate today. I already have X2 Ultimate & X3 Ultimate....I know you're saying why the heck by X4 Ultimate....because I did....LOL!
It installed much faster than X2 or X3.
Question 1: After setting some things up...I added the path to my plugins folders. I then started to test them. Adjust Variations doesn't work. It doesn't show the image in the preview windows, it shows either all black or grey and doesn't work. Not a big problem. BUT.....I couldn't believe it when I tested Filters Unlimited.....that darn bug I had in X3 when I upgraded it was still there. Filters Unlimited will only work on a background layer. It won't work on a raster layer. The preview shows all these colored lines through it and if I select a filter and click ok, the effect only happens to one small portion of the left side of the image. Same problem I had in X3 after installing updates. All the ohter filters I tested besides these two, seem to be working fine.
I have emailed support on this issue. Does anyone else have this problem in X4? You would have thought it would have been fixed. I have a ton of filters imported into Filters Unlimited so this is a real annoying problem. I will have to use either X2 or X3 (I had uninstalled it and re-installed it without doing the updates, so it Filters Unlimited does work properly there).
Question 2: Is there any way to get the little icons to show up next to the menu items like you could in X3? I went to View then Customize and looked all around there, there's no option for menu icons. Am I missing it?
Question 3: What's up with the black & white icons? Makes it hard to figure out what some of those items are.
Question 4: My X2 Ultimate came with the Background Remover plugin. My X3 came with Magic Bullet Photolooks...which I haven't really used yet. These installed into the main programs plugin folders. Can I safely move them into my regular plugins folder so I can use them in X4 as well? Or is that not legal?
I think that's all the questions I have for now.
Thanks,
Lisa

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Well, all the programmers can do is make the plugins portion as compatible as possible but the beta testers didn't have all of the plugins that others might possibly have and the errors could potentially be there for only a few users. It is hard to fix bugs like that. Just report them and hope the developers find the cause and fix it.
You can get the icons to show but there is no longer a single checkbox to do that with. You have to do it manually for each menu item. While in customize mode right-click on the menu item and select "image & text".
There has been talk by the developers to offer color icons again with a service pack so watch for that to see if it happens.
Also you would have to read the user agreements to be sure but as far as I know the plugins are not legally bound to specific versions of PSP. Again I don't actually know that but from what I can remember I don't remember reading about any such limitations.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Btw, if you register your PSP X4, you will get a download link to download KPT plugin that will be compatible with your PSP X4, that means the KPT that came with PSP X3 is not compatible with PSP X4.nhlisa wrote:Question 4: My X2 Ultimate came with the Background Remover plugin. we really cannot stop people like you (who owns multiple numbers of PSP) to install the plugins that came with the old PSP and install them on the new program. However there is no guarantee that they will work with the latest version of PSP.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Corel incompatible anyway. And we all know Corel has a slightly different definition of compatible but the KPT that comes.with X4 should be.used with X4 because it has been tested.specifically for X4. Though to add.to the.confusion of what is what, before the KPT was available for X4 I was using the one for x3 with no problems at all.

Same here. I registered X4 and downloaded the KPT plug-ins that come with X4 but didn't install them because I already had them w/X3. I just pointed X4 to look at the X3 KPT plug-ins and they work just fine.LeviFiction wrote: snip. . . Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Hi. I do understand that....but Filters Unlimited is a very popular plugin and this was the main plugin problem that happened in X3 after doing an upgrade. It was reported by many people. We were all told that the only option was to uninstall X3 & re-install it, skipping the update. Which I did. So they did know the problem was there. So I really think it should have been fixed with this new version. I have thousands of plugins imported into my Filters Unlimited (yes they are in seperate databases than the main one). So until fixed, I'll be having to switch back & forth between X4 & X3.LeviFiction wrote:Well, all the programmers can do is make the plugins portion as compatible as possible but the beta testers didn't have all of the plugins that others might possibly have and the errors could potentially be there for only a few users. As far as the icons, thanks for the tip!
Adding my 2 cents...color icons would be a nice option to have. It makes it easier for me to know what I'm looking at.
Thanks,
Lisa

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Hi. As far as the KPT Collection. I did already download the one for X4 and have it installed. I was just wondering about the background remover and magic bullet that came with the previous versions...wanted to know if it was ok to move them so I could access them in all versions. I do realize that there's always a chance that they won't work with the new version.Abiel Corel NA wrote:Btw, if you register your PSP X4, you will get a download link to download KPT plugin that will be compatible with your PSP X4, that means the KPT that came with PSP X3 is not compatible with PSP X4.nhlisa wrote:Question 4: My X2 Ultimate came with the Background Remover plugin. Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
I have both the background remover and magic bullet and I didn't have to move them. I just pointed X4 in their direction via File -> Preferences -> File Locations. FYI - they both work for me in X4.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
I am having the same issues with plugins and the PSP team are well aware of it as it's been an issue since the beginning of testing.
So many of my filters no longer work in PSPX4 but work perfectly in X3.
As for KPT, I have to disagree with Abiel as KPT have been around for a very long time and worked with a number of versions of PSP and other software, so they are not just for PSPX4, they are compatible with a number of software programmes.
I know of others having the same probleme with the Filters Unlimted and it seems no matter what we try, nothing works.
I uninstalled the filters and reinstalled into my C \ Programs drive. They work fine, but like you say, cannot add a filter to any particular layer.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in this matter.
I do know the problem exsisted in X3 after a certain update was done. I ended up uninstalling X3, re-installed it and skipped the update. So all the filters work fine there. I knew they probably wouldn't bother fixing it in X3 since I knew that X4 was right around the corner.
But it is upsetting to find that the problem is still in X4. It's definitely a strange problem. But at least we can use Filters Unlimited on a background layer. I just hope they get it fixed soon so we can use it on raster layers as well.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Recently I started having a problem with my PSP X3 Plug-ins. For some reason when I try to use Alfs Border FX, it shuts down PSP.
Had the same problem with some other plug-ins too.
They used to work fine. My other plug-in work fine, just a few of them stopped working.
Any ideas

Hmm.....nope...As far as i know, all my plugins are still working fine in X3....as long as I don't update it, they should remain working.SilverWolf wrote:Recently I started having a problem with my PSP X3 Plug-ins. For some reason when I try to use Alfs Border FX, it shuts down PSP.

As far as the Filters Unlimited and Adjust Variations problem in X4. I did finally receive an email from Corel saying that they were investigating the matter...

Well nothing I tried worked. So I ended up reinstalling PSP X3. After the reinstall, everything worked Perfectly. It was the Damn PSP Update!
I don't know what they're putting in this update ..... but it's screws everything up.

Re: PSPX4 - plugin bug & other questions
Lisa you mat have read in some of my submissions re the problem with FU not working on a raster layer in X3
and now not working in X4..Adjust variations the image turns black but it does work in X4..
with it in X3 that filter kept crashing my computer ..I now have all my plugins including Ulead, Xenofex working in X4 with the exception of FU
Corel needs to get their act together as they have known of this problem for months and have told
users to take X3 back to patch2 it works fine then so they should know why the problem occurred
after patches 3 and 4..taking it back to patch2 may get FU working but not some that had perviously
worked , so you are in a no win situation..
Filters Unlimited is high priority for psp users, it is a damn nuisance when you have to save and
go back to X2 to complete the layer you are working on..
Come on Corel fix it for your loyal customers..
In the groups I am in they refuse to buy X4 because they have had so much trouble with X3..
I have been battling with Corel for months over X3 so I went and Bought X2.
I relented and bought X4 at the giveaway price..$39US unfair on the ones that paid top $
Perhaps Corel should give them the Ultimate version in return..
I feel Corel should have given those who had problems with X3 a free version of X4..
Cheers
