Zooming in and out of a photo for a video

Post by Wildmn34 »

Hi guys,

First off thanks for the help you guys have given me in the past. I forgot my login/password and am unable to recover it. Tried having it sent to my email, but it never shows up so I had to create a new account.

Anyway, on to the question.

I have Video Studio Pro x4

And I am about to start a video for a foster dog I have. Basically, I want to take a whole bunch of pictures (and possibly a short clip or two) and put them into one video and post on Youtube for the rescue to use.

Here is the one I did for the last rescue dog I did when he got adopted and was waiting for his new owners to come and get him. (I know nothing overly fancy, but I am happy with it).

Now, my question is this. Another lady in the rescue did a video seen here:

She zooms in and out of some pictures and I REALLY like that effect. I emailed her and she said she did it on a Mac and it's called the "Ken Burns Effect" Is something like that possible using Video Studio? And if it is, how the heck do I get that to work? I've searched for over an hour in the forums and knowledge base and have come up with nothing. So I decide to hide my pride and just ask. lol

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Pan/zoom is the Ken Burns effect, he is the one the came up with it. It's really very, very easy to do. One quick way is after dropping all your photos into the video track, select all of them using the traditional windows method (Select the first image, press the Shift key and hold it, then select the last image). Now right click, and select Auto pan/zoom . Done!.

...And if you want to custimise the effect on different photos, Ron was too modest to point you to another of his helpful step-by-step guides to doing it! See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 79#p227079

Ron and Ken,

Thanks you very much for your help.

That was exactly what I was looking for. I was looking all over for the "Ken Burns Effect" and couldn't find it. I guess I had a stupid moment and didn't think to search generically lol.

I have been playing around with that pan/zoom and it has great potential... even for someone with my limited skills.

It's nice to know I can always get help here.

Much appreciated.

Here's what I ended up with for my current foster dog.

Not the best, but not to bad either. :)

Hey, that's looking good!!

Keep working with the program, you'll be amazed at what you're capable of doing. For example, without your photos added to the timeline, add your music. Then start playing it, tapping your foot or hand to the beat. Now there is an unpublished keyboard shortcut, F5 key, for adding Cue marks or chapter marks. You'll want the cue marks. Change it to cue marks, now play it, and press F5 to add a cue mark to the beats, like 1 mark for every 4 beats. Once that is done, now add a photo, aligning them to a cue mark.

As a dog person myself, I loved your clip -- though I continue to be amused by the fact that the so called Australian Shepherd only seems to exist in the US. It is certainly not an Australian breed (and I am originally from Australia!) I also used to run the website of a dog rescue organisation in Canberra, and know all about fostering dogs. In fact, the miniature poodle sitting at my feet right at this minute was a foster dog I took in 6 years or more ago, and simply couldn't give up. So I adopted him myself to go with my toy poodle!!

Apart from playing around with pan and zoom, though, you might also want to think about varying the transitions a little bit. That page roll effect you used is good, but a little variety never hurts...

This is a nugget! Are there more of these that perhaps deserve some sticky post? What are other shortcut keys, and how does one display them? (Sorry that this is off-subject of this post, but I was pretty excited by this tip)... Al
