X4 Layer Palette Bug

Post by mesmith322 »

I just installed the X4 trial. I still have X3U installed but not open.

I keep the layer palette open all the time.

This is what is happening....

I open an existing image and the current layers are displayed correctly. I open another image and it looks fine too. I then copy the 2nd image or a layer from the 2nd image and paste it as a new layer onto the first image. No matter which image is active, the layer palette continues to show the layers from the 2nd image until I close it. At that point there are no layers displayed in the layer palette at all; not even the background. If I do a paste as new image or even just create a new image, there is nothing in the layer palette then either. It doesn't change if I close and reopen the layer palette. The only way I have found to get the layers to display is to click on something outside of PSP X4 such as an open browser screen and then go back to PSP X4.

I've tried several times and cannot replicate the issue you are having. I normally work with tabbed documents (no problem there) and I even turned off tabbed documents and tried again and still cannot replicate the issue.

When I copy image 2 and then switch to image 1 and paste as a new layer, my layers palette displays properly with image 2 on top of image 1.

Sorry, maybe someone else can offer a suggestion.

I have seen this bug, can't remember if I reported it or not though.

However for me it was inconsistent and all I had to do was minimize then bring the program back up and it redrew itself. So I don't know if there is something you can do but this rarely happened and it was a simple annoyance that was easily resolved for me.

I played with this a bunch of times and it happened every single time. Now it seems to be working ok since I closed it altogether.

I cannot recreate the problem that you are experiencing. Can you tell us what is the build number of your PSP X4?

I'm also seeing a similar problem w/ version 14.0.0.332...

When I go from Full Screen Preview back to Edit view, the palettes are set very wide. This is happens every time I return from full screen preview.

I have seen and reported that 3 times, I hope it will get fixed, it's very annoying.

@ed_123

I'm going to escalate the problem you mentioned. It only happens on XP. It works fine on Windows 7.

@mesmith322

Regarding the copy/paste/layer problem, sorry, I can't reproduce it on our systems. I followed your description step by step:

- Launch PSPX4
- Change to Edit mode
- Open an image (Cascade mode)
- open a second image and press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C
- change to the first image and press Ctrl+V

One consideration, there was the mention of "layers" so these might be multi-layered documents.

I'm just testing the problem to get a 100% working description for the DevTeam and I'm struggling.

I had it before my lunch time, too, but now, I don't get it again.

I'll keep an eye on it!

Still works fine for me. I will have a look in the next days to see if there is a new description of the way to reproduce it.

I've had a similar problem. Had a multilayered image open, opened another image then when I went back to my multilayered image, all the layers but one had vanished from the layer palette. Only way I found to bring it back is to add another raster layer which caused the other layers to reappear, then cancel adding the extra raster layer. Help would be appreciated.

I might be a million miles off base - but are the problems related to the Security software that people are running? Previous un-installs and re-installs of X4 during testing were very very slow - but I turned my Security software off and voila! no problems. My software checks all files all of the time. I get this intermittent layer palette bug (I reported too when I found it in v332 - it had not appeared in earlier versions for me).
I close the offending file and any superfluous ones and it magics itself away often not to appear again in the same file - BUT sometimes BIG layer files are not re-read by PSPX4
Just a thought from my rambling mind!
