PSP X4 Hangs on install

Post by Simon Walden »

Get as far as the EULA then just stops. So that's a good start :)

Follow-up

Tried the old X3 trick of installing under a different login.

That worked for the other login, but going back to my main login gives me "illegal download or corrupted"

If I now run the install on my main login, then all it will do is remove the installation, then I'm back to square one again.

This is exactly the same problem as many had/have with X3 I believe, where the install as another user trick worked fine (because I've had to use it) it won't work for X4

It runs fine on the test login after install by the way.

...And we try to discourage people from sending private messages to Board regulars about problems like yours. This is because the problem may be experienced by other users, and the solution given could also benefit them. That won't happen if the whole thing is shared between only two people.

Hello Simon,

If you have installed the PSP X4, you no longer need to reinstall it on the other user name. You can should be able to see the program already installed on your regular user name.

Abiel,

As I say in the above notes, installing under a different user name then switching to my main user gives me the illegal or corrupt file message.

So whatever I do I can neither install under a different user and run as my main, or install as my main user.

This trick did work for X3, but not for X4

I'm having the same problem, just downloaded the trial. Running X2 on my system without a problem.
Is it possible this is due to a corrupt download?

Welcome to the forums, :)

It is possible, don't know if that is really what's causing the hanging. You say you're running X2 on your system. What system is that? Please complete that information in the User Control Panel, on the Profile tab. That way it will be displayed below your name, and we can see if it may/may not be part of the problem, AND later on if you have problems you will not need to retype it in your posts.

Probably not system specific since it installs and runs for a different user.

Steve, the X3 trick might work for you, install X4 as a different user, then try it under your regular user account.

Thanks for the help, installation began under another user name and ran for a minute or so, then I got an error message as follows;

"your system has not been modified - the storage control block is invalid".

I have no idea what this means (?) but I think I'll just stick with my older working version for now, or at least until I upgrade my computer

Hi.
I have exactly the same problem with the Trial version of PaintShop Pro X4.
I wonder what's going on?
Cheers.

I managed to solve the problem. I couldn't install any version of paint shop pro x4, it did stop on EULA, you click on next and nothing happens. Operating system Win 7 64 bit. After two days of going through registry, creating new users and removing stuff I finally did Upgrade Repair of Win7 (you put installation cd of Win7, start the setup from within working windows, and select Upgrade option of installation). This keeps all your software as it was. Make sure you have your Windows license handy, because you will have to retype it.
After this Paint Shop Pro x4 installed no problems.

Good Luck :)
