Problem mysteriously losing data in tracks (VS Pro X2)

Post by mbrien »

Yikes, I am having this problem:

This has happened several times now. I have a project up and running on VS Pro X2 12.0.98.0.

I'll do an edit here or there, suddenly (AND OFTEN TOO LATE!) all my audio tracks and many title track contents will have totally vanished. It can be something as simple as inserting a single transition somewhere ...

"UNDO" does not retreive the lost info; I can close, exit and not save, and then reopen, but sometimes I have inadvertantly "saved", not knowing all the other content had been deleted and "poof" ... tons of invested time is gone.

Is there some fix out there or extra level or upgrade I can get?

Thank greatly!

Running Windows Home Vista
HP HDX-18T 18" laptop. (tons of memory and speed)
VideoStudio Pro X2 12.0.98.0

By the looks of the version number you haven't installed the service pack. It should be 12.0.98.1. Try downloading and installing Service Pack 1. The other is just to make it compatible with Win7. You don't need that one.

Hi

How are you saving the project?
If using “Save As” then you may be saving multiple copies.
Are you opening the last saved / most recent project?

Wow, I do execute the "save as" (the first time anyhow) but then always just do "save" ... but curiously, I noticed recently the same thing happened .. and I clicked "save" again and suddenly the missing track data reappeared ... I assume I am opening the last most recent (and only, I thought ..) copy.

Must be something going on with the save function ... my hunch.

I'll look into downloading the service pack update.

Thanks greatly for both very helpful replies,

Hi,

I was looking through the patch - download pages, and I found the entry:

Corel VideoStudio X2 and X2 PRO
NO UPDATE REQUIRED

I clicked on it and it offers no update.

Am I looking in the wrong location? or selecting the wrong patch?

Thanks again,
Michael

Hi Michael

Ron gave the link to the download page in an earlier post.

Download Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 Service Pack 1 its showing as 18.8 Mb,
The download file is called VSX2PROPATCH.exe, run to install the patch.
Then view about Corel Video Studio from the ? symbol.

Hi Michael

Not to worry
Let us know how you get on.

View your Video Studio Project files VSP’s on the pc via Windows Explorer.

How many versions of your project have you saved?

Okay, downloaded and installed the fix.

Hopefully that will help correct the problem that occurred at times.

I have two versions of my (current) project saved; but as I explained in my opening post, some step I executed 86'd a whole swath of title track and audio track content.

I can try to reconstruct the contents, though I do see a button {save title track info} ... and I tried using that so I could copy/paste into the other version, actually works but all formatting (positioning; attached animation; etc., etc) is lost ...

Is there any way to, say,

select title track from version A;
close version A;
open version B;
paste copied title track info into version B;

... be a nice feature ...

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael

What do you mean by Version “A” --- Version “B”

Are you referring to Video Studio versions VS 12, X3, X4 for instance
Or
are you referring to a different project (VSP) file.

For Projects
There is no actual way to copy and paste timeline content from one project into another.

If the titles were completely filling the timeline with no gaps, if there are spaces then fill them with a temporary title, call it a buffer.
You can drag all to the library, open the second project and drag back to the timeline, deleting/removing the temporary titles all useful titles will be in position.

How many titles are you using, I assume a lot?

Oh, sorry about the confusion: but "Version A" is my first copy of my project ... "Version B" is simply the 2nd.
(Nothing to do with VideoStudio versions)

Between the two versions, I'll be able to reconstruct most of what I had earlier .. so no catastrophe.

I can, I mentioned, "save" the title track contents; then put them in another work file ... just that the formatting is lost ...

It's a lengthy vdeo of my backpacking trip in Yosemite; and I had carefully and painstakenly postioned; and formatted many title things in certain locations at certain times ... I can probably get it back together .. the actual text "things" ... "modules" ... whatever they might be called, are in the library anyhow ... so that's good.

Thanks greatly for all the help.

Actually, it's a really great video program ... having a lot of fun with it.

just need to take care everything's "kosher" when I hit "SAVE".
