I'm familiar with WordArt and what you meant. I was talking about something that would allow wordart like effects without being restricted to text based vectors.

I think thats not adobe. As far i see X4 have features in, and only the functions need connect depend on menu or mid mouse buttonel48tel wrote:Looks a bit like ADOBE!photopainter wrote:I wish a switchable Option to show in Smart Photo Fix overexposed Pixels in red color.I think its also nice to have such a feature in the RAW window and also have the Smart PhotoFix sliders and automatic.smart photofix is really great, the automatic do a good job, and best is, that can change all sliders.
maybe its possible that in the Adjust mode with a press to mid mousebutton the original image is show, so have a simple to program compare function.Have split window i think not so important to have.but if its possible i like it too.

In X4 when you have open history window there is on left side an eye.You can click on the eye and so you can toggle between view before and after effect.but you need move mouse over history window. My idea is to use mid mouse button to do this.As long mid mouse button is press, view 1 undo before is show in main view.
In the dialog windows, the feature is still in and the left mousebutton do the job.But you need move the mouse a little in X or Y.only press button do not work.its only a small problem, mostly you move the mouse a little when press, maybe fix in current beta.to be consistent the same function can work with mid button.
I notice that X4 can create another window. To offer split view window, maybe the feature can add that you can click on a history entry and choose a menu item."Add as freezed view".this is a frozen view of the current image data in the history buffer. In the title can show freeze.so can see that its a reference window.
To overexpose:
lots of programs show overexpose.
The first is chdk Zebra on my Canon camera.
the silky pix developer Studio 3.0 free from 2007 can do it.its a button in the tool bar.its possible to change a percent value in prefs on which % overexpose is show.overexpose area blink then.
But blink i think is not so usefull.
there is a photoshop Curve plugin called smartcurve(can work in HSB/HSV/ LAB Mode too and can save presets), work in X4 too, this can show overexpose (when click on "Lichter" Box.I use this for curve.seem only german version, but you need not know lots text and all is self explain.

It would be nice if the pull down menu for resizing included a complete list of standard sizes (160x120 thru 1600x1200) along with percentage choices (say 25% thru 400%), Avatar sizes (60, 80, or 100 pixel square), plus "custom." The later being basically what we're currently provided with in both inches and pixels. Including the ability to have auto cropping when resizing would also most welcome.
Most other programs have such options to speed up resizing of pictures for e-mailing and posting. Even ThumbsPlus Pro has what I describe save the Avatar options. I'm new to PSP X4 and was shocked not to find a more refined and speedy approach to resizing.

I agree about the faster brushing. I like to use a duplicate layer set to Multiply blended, and then put a reveal all mask on it and paint out the center with a large soft brush to create a vignette. But, it is painfully slow brushing it out in PSP.
I'd like to see more updates to the RAW Lab. (for now I will stick with DPP for most serious work) Perhaps an updated noise section with separate Color Noise control. Contrast setting, or better yet a Curves adjustment. Sharpening for sure. A visible way to see highlights and shadow clipping (I know some people have "issues" over this suggestion on the forum, but if it's handy then it's worthwhile to ask. Perhaps even add this to the Edit workspace). Actually, if the Adjust workspace would allow you to apply edits and open the file in the Editor without first having to save it, I may skip using the RAW Lab in the first place.
A dedicated gradient tool would be handy. Fix the palette size problem (certain palettes resize upon program restart). Fix the 72dpi thing. Fix the "rough" display update in the Adjust workspace.
I really like where the program is heading! I've owned X2 for quite a while, and honestly I almost never used it even though I tried to love it. I liked what it did but it was far too slow for me. The updates are fantastic though! I'd love to see more speed improvements.

Forgot to add..... the "Trays" in the Manage workspace should remember the items you add to them. Currently the default "My Tray" forgets items placed in it once the program is closed. Additional trays work as expected and remember the items added.

I agree, more 16 bit tools and supported functions would also likely mean more customers making the switch from other editors.DaveQ wrote:in X4, a lot more 16-bit tools!!

Re: PaintShop Pro X4--Wishlist for Future Versions
I would like the ability to convert a raster layer into a mask layer. This would allow to use layered templates more easily. If there is currently a way to do so (or a workaround), i would love to hear as i have not yet, found one.
How about having angled guidelines? I dont know if any other program offers that, but it would be a neat little detail: something to pick the angle (like in the rotate command) or with a handle (like the deformation or straighten tool). Sometimes, if i want to match a text to an angled element/edge, i have to do it by guessing.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4--Wishlist for Future Versions
As far as requested features go, there is one thing that has always really annoyed me in PSP; The one X to close the current active TAB (close image).
I never understood to logic in doing something completely different than most other programs do, since half of the actions you do in applications is routine.
Why not let each image tab (when using tabbed documents) have its own little X (close button)?
Basically the same way Adobe Dreamweaver has, and Google Chrome and Firefox.
Just an idea

To be fair, at the time when PSP added tabs they were doing it the same way everyone else was. The single close button for tabs was not uncommon.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4--Wishlist for Future Versions
Could very well be. And I should say that it is not such a huge issue. I just seem to keep forgetting where to close tabs
, especially when I have to switch between Dreamweaver and Paintshop Pro a lot.
But on the other hand, programming-wise, it should be a very minor task to implement a simple option that checks whether you have chosen (checkbox in preferences?) to have one central 'close image' button, or tab-based 'close image' buttons.
It's all about usability

Re: PaintShop Pro X4--Wishlist for Future Versions
Not fixed in the patch.
A vector layer can not be converted to a raster layer under "layers', I have to right click in the "Layers Palette" in order to convert the layer.
Being a new user of x4 I have found a few things I do not like but am learning to deal with them.
I am sure in a short time I will be finding more and more issues.
