Here are two suggestions that are needed. The first is simple, when a selection is active change the color of the active layer. I often have a selection but it is set to hide then I forget and have trouble with a tool not working and I waste time trying to figure it out. If the layer I'm on would change from blue to red it would remind me to set the selection to None.

The second item has annoyed me for years. Many functions re-calculate every time we make a change to the setting (e.g. effects, ) and we must wait then wait again. For effects with multiple settings, put in a check box for manual update and an apply button on things that take more than a second or two to calculate. This way we can make large changes to several settings and then apply as we like.

Finally, I have run into problem with X3 using Topaz plugins in scripts. X4 is better but would crash on Adjust 5. I haven't tried it in SP2 yet, but Corel should always make sure Topaz plugins function properly even in a script.

Coming directly from PSP 9 I'm unhappy how this curves editor (Brightness and Contrast) works now. Moving a control point does not affect only the adjacent curves but those between other points too. This makes it very hard to get the curves right (with the interpolation in PSP 9 setting curves was a matter of seconds, now its fiddling around for minutes).
There should be an option to choose how curves are interpolated (PSP 9 style, linear, bezier, etc.).

Curves has been there for ages - certainly in X2 - just be gentle - use the left; right; up; down arrow keys for real close work

I noticed on photoshop that if you rested your cursor over a part of the image, a corresponding point on the curves line appeared showing what point you needed to move, to affect that tone. This does not seem to be present in PSP and I think would be an advantage.

Don't know if this has already been suggested but I'd like to see Image Information as a palette. Also being able to select what to display on the Image Info palette would be ideal. I want to know focal length, lens used, and camera used on. Others may not care about that and want to know GPS data. If that palette could just stay open it would help with establishing a workflow.

I wouldn't be asking for this if Corel would just fix the problems with photoshop plug-ins. If PTLens could read the focal length, lens used, and camera, I wouldn't need to manually insert it. Seems pretty simple, lots of other editors do this just fine, but not Corel. OK, end rant, back to processing pictures.

Save image as "in-built PDF" format, in the same way either GIMP or Photoshop provide.
The PDF printer (even in best quality setting) doesn't provide a good output as "in-built PDF" do.
Actually, when I need to create a PDF to send to print shop I open the image create in PSPX4 from GIMP.
So, to users that send their works to be printed externally, the "in-built PDF" format would be handy (many print shop ask for PDF format, not PNG or JPEG).

I wish the Raw editor in PSP was more robust. I feel that it offers the bare minimum and does not compare to Adobe Camera RAW.

Also, I wish the sliders were easier to use. For example, the opacity slider is very clunky and extremely hard to fine tune.

I purchased Paintshop Por 4x only last week and had been using version 9 till then, so some of these features might be implemented already!
  • Text effects. Please add built in text effects.
3d text. (it looks really cool when you add it to some images... for example a sphere)
Rounded rectangles and squares ( I know there are workarounds and some basic functionality, but trust me, they're very time consuming)
Ability to open all frames from an animated gif file.
Ability to open avi, mp4 files: all the frames or user definable ratio. My gif animator programs let me do it and they're like... 10 years old!
Curved wireframed grids. (3d I guess)
Please add transparent bg conversion memory! (If you open a png file with, say, black bg, then convert that bg into a transparent bg, then copy the image with the transparent bg and then paste it into a new one, the transparency is gone and the black bg is still there. However, if you save the image with the transparency, you then close it, then you open it again, then you copy it and you paste it, voila! the transparecency is there!)
More effects. Very few new ones have been added in the last versions.
Increase the "recent files list to at least 100).
The "buttonize" effect was really poor in 9, havn't tested it with this latest version.
Selection tool by numeric value (i.e. xpixel 24, y pixel 95, etc.). This is like so essential!

What I really want is a linux version of PSP. Now ubuntu has a software center for third parties can sell their software.

I am using the trial version and wanted to buy it but I really hate to boot windows just for photo editing, is not that I hate windows is just I prefer ubuntu and want to use only one system, not two.

Also a mac version will be welcomed because they have 10% of market share and a big portion of them use it for multimedia porpoises.

Mac: A proved successful market.
Linux (specifically, fedora and ubuntu) : A market niche that nobody wants to explore but could be a success (valve is exploring it).
Windows: OFC the desktop with biggest market share, is the platform of choice for business

The ability to disable zoom on a mouse wheel / trackball scroll. I just got a new trackball with a very sensitive scroll ring. Now when I am trying to crop or straighten or select, if I just touch a lazy fingertip to that scroll ring, I am zooming in or out! Very annoying.

I use a trackball due to hand problems, so re-training my hand may not be an option.

I can't find anything useful in my Kensington Trackball software or my Windows 7 Home premium control panel mouse settings!

I do a fake example, which explains why it is important to also have this button in the "edit" tab too, and not only in the "adjust" tab (like other software)

You can have that effect by using the layers palette and duplicating your image, then work on the top image cloning, lighten, levels etc . To see your original image in the exact same place just click the visibility toggle of the top layer on and off. Worked image on top and original below. No need for an extra button on an already busy tools options space.

Duplicating your image in the layers should be a first thing when working on images.
