In a single video clip, I want to have parts of the video slow down (slow motion), then go back to normal speed.
How do I do this?
The purpose is for action video footage. I have footage of mountain bikers, and when they do something exciting and difficult (jumps, etc.), I want to slow the video down to bring emphasis to that specific part of the video, then bring it back to normal video speed.
How do I do this? Or how does one recommend I do this?
Thanks,
John

You can cut the video using the Scissors where you want the speed to change, click on the resulting clip, and then click on Playback Speed to speed up or slow down the video.
One other recommendation would be to mute the sound of the original video and add your own, possibly using the Automusic feature.

Thanks
I've played with it a little (version 9) and I see that I must first edit a clip (slow down playback speed), then try to transition it with the next clip (playing at regular speed) to make the slow motion effect work without any hesitation in the clip sequence.
Any tricks to doing that? Right now, I'm simply cropping the video and try to manually end on one video frame, then start on the next video frame in the subsequent video clip.
Is that how it is done, or is there a better method?

I'm not sure what you mean by that.jblenio wrote:Any tricks to doing that? Right now, I'm simply cropping the video and try to manually end on one video frame, then start on the next video frame in the subsequent video clip.
In the timeline, you can zoom in on your assets down to the frame level, so finding the exact place where you cut should be simple.
After you make the two cuts (one at the beginning of the slow motion segment, one at the end), you select the segment, and change the speed.
If you want to smooth the transition, you could make several cuts and gradually adjust the speed, i.e. play a couple of frames at 90% of the original speed, then 80%, then 70% etc. until you reach the desired playback speed. At the end of the sequence, reverse the procedure.
