Re: PaintShop Pro X4
Good advice Levi. Thanks.
I just noticed that the "Revert" function seems to have gone missing? Am I just overlooking it, or it's renamed or something? I used to have Revert on my File menu, it was a one-click way to restore the last saved version of the file when you've decided your current changes haven't been particularly productive.

Revert is now under Edit rather than File. It's still named Revert.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4
I suspect the "Photo" simply created confusion for people familiar with the old PaintShop Pro. It's good to see them return to the old name.flossed wrote:Hi

By the way, if you have X3, have you updated with the latest patch released just a few days ago? It can be found at http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... Patch5.exe

I too get the problem when pasting. I've tried copying and pasting from various websites, from MSPaint and Microsoft Word. Each time with the same result.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4
I have the exact same issues as listed below by a previous poster, but I was unable to find any responses that address these issues. Can anyone offer some insight. These "changes" are very frustrating to work with.
chickiepet wrote:Hi, just started using the trial of X4 and still exploring however, something that's got me confused and can't find an answer for:
When I'm working in Edit mode, if I have an image open, I can't go across to Manage mode without it wanting to save or close out the image I'm currently working on. I've had issues with the 'organiser' since it's inception and have to admit to preferring the 'browse' as a minimisable window within the normal workspace as it used to be in the Jasc days of psp 9 and below, i.e. I had control over it. However, I compromised on that in X3 by setting the Organiser as a toggle in the top right corner set to thumbnails since I really don't like it cluttering up my workspace. That option, to toggle between the organiser and the workspace is gone..well, sort of gone I guess, changed is a better word. Now we 'should' be able to toggle between 'edit' and 'manage' tabs according to the advertising to achieve the same thing, but of course with the program wanting to close out my multi-layered image first, that's not an option either.
I find it more than annoying to my workflow to have the organiser in the bottom of the workspace and, the necessary 'navigation' menu on the left, even when they are set to roll away when not in use since they will pop open if I even go near them and that really is quite annoying.
So, I guess my question is, why can't I have an image open in 'edit' and successfully move between edit and manage screens?
A couple other things I've found so far... the 'mirror image' command is gone from the Image menu...? Also, when I close out the program and then reopen it, the colour style box and last font used have changed. Likely there are other things along that track that are also resetting themselves but as I said, I'm still experimenting with it.
On the plus side, I'm thrilled that the pixel loss problem was fixed when 'pasting as a new selection'! that was such a bugbear in X3.
Hoping someone has an answer for the edit/manage problem?

The issue with having to save your edits before moving to Manage mode can be worked around by turning on "Dual Monitor" at the bottom of the View menu. You don't actually have to have two monitors to be able to use this, it just splits PSP into two different windows: one for Manage and another for Adjust & Edit. You can have both open on the same screen and switch between them using ALT+TAB or your Windows task bar just as if they were different programs. You won't be asked to save any more when you move to the Manage window with unsaved changes in the Adjust/Edit windows.
"Mirror Image" hasn't gone, it's just changed to "Flip Image Horizontally". You can even have it respond to the menu shortcut key "O" again, just like Mirror Image used to by customizing the menu and adding an "&" character to the entry like so "Flip Image H&orizontally". Now there's no difference at all from previous versions.
Can't help with the non-sticking Color Style / Font boxes. That bit's working fine here I'm afraid.

I've always opened my images from my already organized Windows Pictures folder, but experienced what you're talking about here. I finally realized that as long as I open an image from within PSPX4 under Manage, that the problem doesn't ocurr. I prefer using the Computer tab under Navigation, rather than the Collections tab.

@ allicorn - Dual Monitors is grayed out in my View menu. Perhaps it knows I don't have two monitors?

Re: PaintShop Pro X4
Allicorn, Flip Horizontally and Flip Vertically are now a local transform instead of image-wide. So if your layer is smaller than the image the effect is slightly different. You can create a script, very easily, to get the old functionality back. After making the script edit it and change the "TransformLocally" to "False" or delete it entirely as the default is "False." PSPX4 saves it as True when recording from the UI.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4
Darn, I was pretty wrong about the Dual Monitors thing then - that's a shame. I noted that it allows me to switch whether I have my second monitor on or off but I guess it still knows from Windows that whether there actually is or isn't one. It's a shame, because that whole "you can't switch to Manage without saving" thing goes away in Dual Monitor mode.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4
I have to correct my last post (above). In PSP X2 I can have multiple images open and work on each one individually with no problem at all. But this X4 seems to be quirky. I've been trying different methods, but there just doesn't seem to be any ryhme or reason as to why it does what it does. For example: While in Manage mode I put two images in My Tray, the first picture in the tray is selected. Then I click on the Adjust tab, everything is still ok, but as soon as I click on the Edit tab the picture vanishes from the screen and from My Tray.Kurzed wrote:I've always opened my images from my already organized Windows Pictures folder, but experienced what you're talking about here. It does seem though that once you save the image (new name), the problem goes away. I have Auto-Preserve turned off (I've tried with it both ways), because I have thousands of pictures and sometimes I'm all over the place playing with pictures and I don't want to have all these auto-preserved pictures all over the place. But once you save the new image, you can bounce back and forth between Adjust and Edit and answer yes each time when you switch. I'll try to post something more concrete after I explore it a little more. Or maybe one of you can shed some light on the situation.
