I have Paintshop Photo Pro X3 , is PaintShop Pro X4 the new version? i dont see the word "Photo" in it...

It is the new version of PSP.....they dropped photo. I'm glad because the title was too long. Paintshop Pro X4 is just enough.
There is the Pro and Ultimate.
Check Corel website for further information.

Well I thought I would trial it first..nothing has changed the plugins that wouldn't work in X3
don't work in X4 so not worth me buying it..I thought Corel was going to fix all the problems
we had with X3..

What plugins aren't working? I have installed loads of plugins into my PSPX3 and they all work perfectly.

Xenofex 2 returns an error, adjust variations..I didn't bother trying any others as
they are 2 plugins I like another returned black images..
Filters unlimited seem to be working along with 2 of the uleads..
It looks smart and jazzy..something I did it froze..
had to go into task manager to close it..
Have now uninstalled it will wait and se what others think.
If all the plugins worked I would consider it..Cheers

Mats you are using XP ..my old computer on XP has all the plugins working...
It may be W7 some plugins are too old for the OS..Cheers

First of all, thank you for PaintShop Pro X4.

My personal PROS:
- nice graphice interface (http://lab.php5.cz/pspx4/PaintShopProX4_03.png), I use it since X2
- nice soved tabs in title toolbar, clever & cute (http://lab.php5.cz/pspx4/PaintShopProX4_04.png)
- finaly we get updated all UI icons (http://lab.php5.cz/pspx4/PaintShopProX4_08.png), even in X3 there are still some old - ugly icons on Script and other panels
- shorter start-up
- quite responsive as I played with it
- added WebP file format, hope it will get chance
- I can select "only one" lang at installation

My personal CONS:
- icons are boring; in X3 it was much better - I understand it is some standard on mobile & Adobe World, PSP can be better
- still no posible to enter manualy values for layer properties (http://lab.php5.cz/pspx4/PaintShopProX4_09.png) *
- after installation, when first time I used function "Canvas Size" with default values, I get wrong result (http://lab.php5.cz/pspx4/PaintShopProX4_10.png), seems like bug..

Radim, to enter values manually for layer properties right click the layer and click properties. There you can enter values on the keyboard or use sliders.

Hello wds937, you mention Nik. I have Viveza and Dfine, and they work flawlessly in the trial version of PaintShop Pro X4 which I have installed recently. And all other important plug-ins do as well. This is one reason why I find X4 interesting.

I still work in an XP environment without any problems, and Ulead PhotoImpact 12 has been a good "photo mate" during four years. But now it is time to learn something new and to be prepared for a Windows 7 computer, I assume within a year or so. Then UPI will not work anymore. I have started to use Lightroom 3 for my RAW editing but still I need a program that can manage some more tricks for me. X4 seems rather easy to use and to have those extra functions that I want on top of Lightroom.

Your version of Windows shouldn't be your only deciding factor. According to Corel's published system requirements, PSP X4 will run on XP, Vista, and 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit, all with appropriate service packs. So, X4 should certainly buy you some time in that regard. I have not made the X4 plunge yet, but I plan to sometime soon.

While I cannot speak for PI 12, I do have PI X3 working on Windows 7, without incident. At least for now, PI X3 is still available from Corel. I should point out, however, that PI X3 is not listed by Corel as being compatible with Windows 7.

I have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 because I have quite an assorted collection of hardware and software, some of which is quite old. In that type of environment, the 32-bit version of Windows will often have fewer compatibility problems than the 64-bit version. I may be reaping an additional reward with PSP, as there seem to be more posts on this forum about instability and other problems with the 64-bit version, but I also realize that it may be because more people have the 64-bit version installed. Just food for thought.

Is there a recommended procedure if upgrading from X3 Ultimate?
I'm wondering if X3 should be uninstalled prior to installing X4, or will X4 "replace" X3, etc?

X4 installs into it's own folder by default, so if you want only X4, then yes, you should uninstall X3. Make sure to copy all your plug-ins, etc. unless they are already in My PSP folder in My Documents. As always, you can add File Locations for plug-ins in Preferences.

There is better memory handling, you can once again filter through the fonts, the pixel problem is gone, and all of my plugins work including the background remover plugin. Others have reported working Topaz filters. So if you are still having problems with plugins it isn't universal like with X3 and reports of specific problems need to be made to address such possible issues.

I do have the Topaz Filter Bundle, including the new B&W Effects, and they all work as expected. No more problem with Remask 3 as after X3 Patch 3 installation either

I am reluctant to upgrade due to the bugs not fixed from previous versions.

In particular:
1. The corruption of the transparent gifs using the Gif Optimizer tool.
2. Copy function is disabled when the Pen tool is selected.
3. Cropping of pixels when an image is pasted as new selection into an existing image

The Gif bug has been reported but unfortunately, to solve it seems to be more complicate.

Copy function: I just checked it and it's no problem, it works fine as well as in X3. Please describe the way you use in X3.

The "new selection" bug should be solved because it has been solved in SP 5 Beta and confirmed as solved by many users.
