Win 7Pro, 64bit INSTALL ERRORS

Post by MLSM »

Hello, I have just replaced my failed XP Pro machine with a new one running Win7Pro, 12GB DDR3, 2TB HD (settings seem perfect on all testing....have been able to install many older programs without problems) but cannot get any patches or updates to install for either VS Pro X3 or Pro X4. The error message received on trying to install patches is #1719....which seems to refer to a problem with MS installer. I have followed 3 recommended fixes for this error, including checking that the service is running, seeing that the service has been unregistered & then re-registered as well as running an sfc scan....all to no avail. When I check the version of ProX4 in the About section, it doesn't seem to list it at all. After all of this, the 1719 error "could not determine the installed version, Installer will close" continues.
In addition, I have uninstalled & reinstalled multiple times as well as having also installed ProX3 in hopes that ProX4 would subsequently install more appropriately & so that I could install the DVD Movie Factory & Paint It that I got with the purchase of ProX3. The error code for the DVD Movie Factory 7 is somewhat different...."Installer could not find Corel VS ProX3 on your machine" at which point the install program cancels out.....naturally, the VS ProX3 is installed & working, although without any patches.
It occurred to me that since Win7, 64, creates a separate PROGRAM FILES folder to house the 32 bit programs (C:\Program Files (x86)) that the Corel programs were looking for install confirmation in the C:\Program Files location rather than in the registry, so I changed the install locations to the C:\Program Files folder, but no help there. I have also run all of the installs using "as adminstrator" as well as with compatibility assigned to XP, sp2 & sp3.
Obviously, over the past week, I have installed, uninstalled & reinstalled these programs over & over. I've also used a "complete" uninstaller program & finally was so frustrated that I lost track of my steps & so have rolled back my new machine's restore point to just prior to starting to work with Corel's VS Pro X programs.
This has taken so much time & effort. I am heartbroken. Please help. Thank you.

Only some users seem to have this problem, and I have no idea why. However, the usual suggestion is that they create a new user account in Win 7 with admin privileges. Then install X4. After that you can log out of the new account and X4 should still work under your 'old' account.

Try running through the procedures list here:

From what I can gather from the web it appears that your installer has been damaged some how. Since not everyone gets this problem the most likely cause is a badly behaved install from something that you put on your system earlier. Just rolling back to when you first started installing VS likely isnt going to fix that, since the damage probably happened before that.

In addition to Ken's suggestion. You may want to check the build number of your VideoStudio, because there are instance that customer getting "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate" or similar to the message that you gave when installing updates, their software was updated already.

If the build number of your VideoStudio X3 should be 13.6.2.69 or higher, this means you have all the update installed.
