mini-dv(JVC) won't capture although recognizes device

I suspect that the IEEE 1394 Host Controller has something to do with this but I have no problems with my sony cam. The model of the JVC is GR-D32U.The weird thing is it acts like everything is going normal but there is no preview picture and no image is captured.Any help would be great!TIA.
