MOV's

Post by Stix99 »

Ken, my yearly visit

Still using VS X2 with XP and had no problems till now. It happily adds movs but now crashes as soon as I try to render. Any thoughts?

Have you recently upgraded Quicktime? X2 will definitely only work with the version which came with it, which from memory was 7.1.3. You can get old versions of QT at http://www.oldversion.com/QuickTime.html

Ah, u see, ask the master and all is revealed. I now have Quicktime v7.6.9.

Might be time to go to X4, sheesh which means Windows 7 as well I guess. Might be all too much for my little Dell. Will it run on an Intel Core TM2 T5300 @ 1.73Ghz with 2 GB Ram?

Both X4 and Win 7 will run on the computer, but it will not be able to play and edit AVCHD video smoothly -- including AVCHD contained in the .mov wrapper. You could use SmartProxy for the editing, but I am not sure it would play smoothly. For that you need at least a decent Core 2 Duo processor, and preferably something better.

Note the I and others have no difficult with all flavours of .mov using Quicktime 7.6.9 and X4 on Win 7, though some other users continue to have problems with that combination. And in my case at least, whatever X4 added to the common files, my X3 and X2, also loaded on this same computer, now accept .mov files with that version of QT. Go figure...
