VideoStudio X4 crashes upon launch
So I had VS x3 and it started to give me serious problems, i.e. no longer able to export to MPEG-HD, because it would crash without warning or explanation. So now I have X4 thinking it would resolve my issues, but no. Now I cannot even launch X4, as soon as it opens I get an 'unexpected error, program needs to close' message. It freezes immediately, and I cannot even open any menu items. I have tried removing and reinstalling QuickTime 7.55, also tried updating my codecs and uninstalled/reinstalled VSx4, none of that worked. I installed this program on my desktop, and it works fine there but ther only difference there is my desktop runs Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and my Alienware M11x runs Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit. If it is not QT or my codecs, I have no idea what is wrong here.

Re: VideoStudio X4 crashes upon launch
It could be worthwhile updating DirectX. Although your computer may be recent, its DirectX 11 build for Win7 will probably be the original build. DirectX must be updated manually, it is not part of the customary Windows update process. Yet some of those general Windows updates for some reason often interfere with the smooth running of Video Studio. And remember I am talking about builds of DirectX -- the small numbers that follow the 11 -- and not the version itself.
There is sticky at the top of the forum, that contains a link to the most recent version of DirectX; or you can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... LSUS007776 , then create a folder on your system to extract the files into, because it will extract around 200 files, and I sure wouldn't want them running loose. Once extracted, locate inside the folder the DXSETUP.exe file and run it. Once it has finished installing you can delete the folder containing all the extracted files.
You might also want to note that this update applies to DirectX 9 (XP), 10 (Vista) and 11 (Win 7) despite the rather confusing statement on the Microsoft site that it applies to DirectX 9.0c and earlier versions.

Re: VideoStudio X4 crashes upon launch
Thank you. I did try the VSX4 update, but that didn't make any difference. I'll give the DirectX update a try, I have a brand new computer coming from Dell so hopefully when it arrives there won't be any issues using VSX4 on it like I have now.

Hi
I had an issue with I think “X2”………. closing without warning, no error messages.
Strange I know but a recent update of Adobe Acrobat Reader seemed to be the culprit.
This was using Windows XP so maybe W7 is totally different.
Reverting to the earlier version of Adobe Reader cured the problem.
From the posts I don’t know if the crash is still an issue or if the X4 launch problem has taken over.

It could also be Data Execution Prevention doing it's thing. Preventing you from running a program that you want to run. For instructions on exempting a program from D.E.P. see the following topic; http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 08#p164308
