Hi folks,
i recently purchased the box version of Corel VideoStudio ProX4 to run on a machine with the following specs:
sony vaio laptop
windows vista home premium/service pack 2
intel core 2 duo 2.2Ghz
2gb ram
358 mb (total) vga (vram)
3055 mb swap file size
trend micro titanium max security (mentioned just in case that's an issue)
the installation process seemed to run smoothly, although it took nearly 45 minutes.
i clicked the 'finish' (installation) button, selected the program from the program menu, and
it did not open. rather, a windows dialog box opened notifying me that the program had
stopped responding. two subsequent attempts produced the same result, although the program folder was fully installed.
i then UNinstalled the program, performed a system restore, and ran the windows system health
report. (the only alert related to ISATAP plug and play device...a known windows problem relating
to ipv6 network connections). everything else passed. (the vista operating software is completely up to date also).
i then explored the system event viewer and found the accompanying (3) alert messages:

i have since defragged the hard drive, and would like to reinstall VS ProX4, but will not do so until i have a
reasonable expectation that it will open properly. any insights or assistance you might be able to offer would
be appreciated. (also, unable to register the product so far, or sign in to corel account, without encountering an endless loop)
Thanks in advance,
sandals

Re: VS ProX4 new install not responding
Welcome to the forums,
There could be several things causing the crash with the kernal32.dll (driver file). Windows wonderful security system, Data Execution Prevention is one. I'm not sure this will correct your problem, but I've had to use it in the past. For some reason it starts thinking that you don't want the program to launch, because it may harm your system..

Hi,
yes, thanks, i'm familiar with DEP from a couple of music programs i had to create exceptions for, but they need a usb security 'dongle' to operate.
to try that solution, i'll have to reinstall VS first, which i'm still somewhat reluctant to do at this point...may have to invest the time though!
