Audio Relink Error

Post by jmfanelli »

Hello,
1st time poster (I have used 4 different versions of this software over the years and have really enjoyed it). I have successfully made 20 AVCHD disks in the past 3 months with mp4 format and now have issues. New problem(s):

When I go to create a video file, I choose MPEG4 - HD. I typically have 20-25 minutes of vidoes (720 and 1080), pictures, sound, and crossfade transitions. It renders through the 99% but no new file is created. In addition, I have noticed two other issues/items which could be related. One, the mp3 audio files have a yellow icon and this error appears "Original file [et theme.mp3] doesn't exist.". Two, the video file thumbnails in the Library now have two icons; the normal one identifying it as a video and now a second icon that looks like two

Welcome to the forums!
When I go to create a video file, I choose MPEG4 - HD.
Why, if you are creating an AVCHD disc in the end, do you choose this as your output? Why don't you choose AVCHD?

I realise that AVCHD is mpeg-4 video, and that the h.264 codec is also used to produce your mpeg-4 HD. But the properties of the two are slightly different, and particularly when it comes to audio. Moreover, and AVCHD disc will use Dolby audio and not the AAC audio used in mpeg-4 HD. So that is going to have to be converted at some stage.

Video Studio occasionally has difficulty with some mp3 files. Not all, but some. So I would suggest you convert the mp3 to .wav before using it in your project.

As for the icons, did you finish your sentence. The second icon looks like two what?

Thank you for the quick response. I appreciate it.

I will try your solution tomorrow night. I will have to convert a lot of mp3 files; I am surprised I am getting this error now as I have never had any issues with mp3 files.

To finish the last sentence, I have two icons on my video's appearing and the second one looks like two "Show/Hide Video" icons stacked on two one another. What is strange is that this second icon is appearing on video thumbnails in the library but not all of them. Each time I open up a folder, there are more video thumbnails with the second icon.

Thank you again and I look forward to your responses.

As I said, VS only has difficulty with *some* mp3 files. I suggest you only convert those used in the project which is causing problems, and see if the situation is improved.

I haven't heard of anyone else having this extra icon problem, so I am not sure what to suggest there...

By the way, new users here have to have their first three posts approved before they appear on the Board. In the past we have been flooded with spammers, and this is a way we have found to control the spam. So please don't keep posting the same messages over and over. They will appear when someone comes along and approves them. And since we are volunteer users, we can't guarantee there will always be someone on the Board who can approve posts immediately... But it usually happens pretty quickly, if you can be a little patient...

Thank's for the advice; the double posts were my "user error" as I have a new keyboard and keep hitting the space bar (sends the post) before I am done and then I tried to redo it.

I have attached a small photo to show you this new second icon; it appears on the thumbnail in the library and it now also appears on the clip in the timeline. I can't find anything in the user guide to tell me what this is.

On a second note; I just tried creating using AVCHD and it worked. Also, I put the same mp3 files in the Samples Folder because i noticed those audio mp3 links were still there and the error message also went away; I still intend to take your advice and convert to wmv.

Thank you again for all of your help; as these are family videos that we watch, you have made us happy again. :)

Glad it's working for you.. :)

Are you by chance using Smart Proxy? It places a small icon on the thumbnails when proxy files are created.

Please do NOT convert to wmv. My suggestion was ".wav" which is the rock standard of audio. Wmv on the other hand is a Microsoft video format and it will not help you at all.

As for that second icon, I get that on some of my clips in the library too, but only some and they appear to be the AVCHD files. I seem to recall we had a discussion about this a couple of years ago, and some conclusion may have been reached, but I am afraid I cannot now recall what it was! But in any case, I simply ignore it and it has never seemed to affect any of my final videos...

I do have Smart Proxy checked.

I did not have any issues after I used your suggestions for a file I just created. I will ignore the icon on the videos.

Thanks to both of you; I hope the issues do not return. :D
