Downloaded X4 upgrade. When trying to install it fails with the message "The installed version of the application could not be determined". I would appreciate any assistance. Thank You.

Welcome to the forums, :)

Did you remove VS X2 prior to installing X4? If so, VS X4 should have asked for VS X2's serial number, and you need to make sure you enter it correctly. If you still have VS X2 installed, is it installed on a local drive (C:), or some other drive/partition?

Do you still have the installation files for VS X2? I ask that just in case something doesn't work out, you can still get it reinstalled. Try uninstalling VS X2 before installing VS X4. It should then ask you for VS X2's serial number. If you succeed in getting VS X4 installed this way, and you also want VS X2 installed, you can then reinstall it.

And just so it is clear, you can have various versions of VS installed at the same time. They don't conflict or overwrite each other. I for instance have X2, X3 and X4 on this computer and all three work separately. A number of us keep various versions active, if only to be able to help out here...

If you previously downloaded the trial of VS X4, you may want to remove the trial then redownload the upgrade. When redownloading, I suggest that you save the file first on your hard drive, once the download it finished that's the time you double-click and run the installation.

You can follow the steps here in removing the trial VS X4 before you install the VS X4 upgrade.

I uninstalled ProX2, attempted to install ProX4. The splash screen showed the user name, asked for the serial number, I entered the serial number of the ProX2 and received a message that the serial number was invalid. I double checked to make sure the numbers were correct. I checked the serial number on the ProX2 prior to uninstalling ProX2, so I am sure it was the correct serial number and was typed in correctly.

The original ProX2 was installed on the C drive in the default location.

I did not install a trial version of ProX4.

Do you have any further suggestions? Thank you for your suggestions so far. I just do not have the foggiest idea why it won't accept the serial number. It almost acts as though it is looking for a ProX4 serial number as opposed to upgrading from ProX2.

1 other thing I should have put on the last post. In addition to entering the serial number as I got it from the Prox2 about splash screen I also tried the purchase key/serial number that was used to activate the purchased copy of ProX2. I once again double checked the numbers/letters typed in and they were correct. I also tried typing it in with and without the dash in the number I still receive an invalid serial number message.

What was the sequence of the serial numbers? When updating, it will normally first seek the serial number of the original copy (X2) then the X4 number. So what was the sequence you were asked for?

I'm not sure about the current versions, but I recall with MSP 8 (Ulead), it was the other way around, where you first entered the serial number for the current version, and then it asked for the serial number you're upgrading from, ie; MSP 7. I think the prompt should tell you though which it is wanting, if it's the version qualifying for upgrade, it will have wording to that affect.

If you are installing an upgrade version, you will need to first provide the serial number of the older version, if it was uninstalled already then provide the serial number for the upgrade. Though I may be wrong.

You might also login to your Corel account, go to Registered Products, and double-check your serial numbers. That is if you did register it. I know sometimes it's easy to mistake a 0(zero) for an O (alphabet).

Thanks everyone for your help. As it turned out all I had to do was enter the serial number for PROX4, I kept entering the serial number for PROX2 because I purchased the upgrade and not a new installation. As it turned out the program never asked for the PROX2 serial number, even after uninstalling the PROX2 program. Once again thank you for your help the program is installing without any further problems.
