Video length reduction to LP issue.

Post by picman2 »

Just recently purchased a new version of Ulead movie factory 6. I was running movie factory 3SE.
I thought I would be better off but I've had a problem just getting the program to even work. I installed the patch and it finally works very slowly. I may end up going back to the older version.

Does anyone know if there's a better way to reduce the total file size of the video in mpeg format so it will fit onto the DVD for TV PAL play better please?
I've reduced it down to LP but the long play in factory 6 seems to be much longer than LP in factory 3SE.

Does anyone have any help please?

What is the file type you are using?
What is the length of this video?

Just as background, the type of video which is used on a video DVD is mpeg-2, so if your video is another format, it will have to be converted at some stage to mpeg-2.

If it is already mpeg-2, then it is bitrate which will determine the size of the final video you are trying to burn to disc. As a general guide, a bitrate of 8000 kbps will allow you to burn about an hour of video to a single layer DVD at high quality; 6000 kbps will give you around 90 minutes at good quality; and 4000 kbps will give you around 2 hours at decent VHS quality. You will get about 10 minutes more video in those figures if you use Dolby compressed audio (leaving more room for video).

But as skier-hughes has indicated, we will need to have the information he asked for before we can comment more on your question.

Hi Guys,
I've been using Ulead for years and I've just reinstalled my old version of Movie Factory 3SE because its works so much faster and compresses the mpeg 2 much easier. Same movie on Moviefactory 6 on the LP setting wont fit but on Version 3SE it fits easy. Version 6 may be okay if you don't mind spending heaps and heaps of extra time making movies but its too slow and doesn't even provide the same level of size reduction that I could in it compared to the older version.

It took a matter of seconds to load the video into the 3SE program compared to about 10 minutes for the version 6. Plus the newer version would only let me drag the file in and I couldn't use the open file option because the program more or less freezes and doesn't higlight the individual file properly . Not sure what's going on there but there seems to be some major software issues there. If I can't compress a full movie length video of say 2 or 2.5 hours to fit on a standard DVD for TV you spend all your time trying to load it on which takes ages only to find out it wont fit anyway because version 6 doesn't seem to be able to compress it down far enough.

I'll play around with the program a little more when I get some more time but it does seem a lot more slow to use and I need to be able to solve the compression issue with it otherwise it will only be good for really short stuff.

Can the bitrate settings be lowered manually other than by the standards setting choices offered in the options tab?

There's obviously a huge difference in these stardard settings between these two programs.
Difference being one will let you fit a longer movie onto a DVD and the other wont with the similar LP setting choice.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you bought your DMF 6? Since the current version that Corel is selling is DMF 7. Anyway, just like what Skier and Ken mention adjusting the Video data rate "bitrate" is the way to reduce the file size but this can also affect the total video quality of the finish product.

But the lowest that I've set the Video data rate "bitrate" is at 2500 and all I can tell you about the DVD is "atleast" its watchable. :)

I purchased a brand new disk set of 3 of your products off Ebay with serial numbers with Movie studio11 with movie factory 6.
The bit rate on the 3SE is also 2500 kbps on LP but the difference is it must somehow squash it up more to fit on the DVD. It also only takes seconds to load the file into the program.

But on version 6 using the same bitrate it doesn't fit on the same DVD using the same LP setting. I don't what's happening with that one. Do you have a fix?
It also takes ages just to load a file into it.
Does version 6 need a different codec perhaps?

This is not a codec problem... also I doubt that the box set that you bought are really brand new. Just to check... can you tell us the first 5 character for the serial number that was given to you?

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6.
The first five serial numbers are: 811A2
It all looks new to me. Brand new disk no markes, new envelope. I hope I haven't been scammed. I've also provided the whole serial number and details to the support department so hopefully someone can help me out and get this issue fixed so I can use the program instead of my older 3SE version with less features.

I'm not saying that the program that you got is an illegal copy but you may want to read this >> http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... d-Software

I've passed the full serial number on to the support department and hopefully they'll get back to me.
