Video Studio Pro

Post by PA156GTA »

I am having trouble after trouble with my trial version of this software.

It worked OK yesterday but today when I try to do any stop motion the Logitec WebcamPro 9000 that I am using clicks fine, shows the set up and scenery fine, but when I click on capture image, I get nothing, nothing at all other than a blank frame, whilst in the preview pane (the live feed as it were) the image is there, so clearly the webcam is supplying and image feed to the software, but it won't capture an image for the purposes of stop motion filming, which is why I wanrt this software - glad its only a trial I have right now!!

I have tried reinstalling the Logitec webcam software and this has reinstalled fine. The Video Studio Pro recognises the camera asd it comes up in the top right box as the device - its the only one connected.

Any ideas why the stop motion feature isn't working? What do I have to do to get it working???

Cheers

My monitor displays the image of what the camera is seeing, I can see my hand infromt of the camera when moving the object, but when I press capture, I get an empty box.

I have since posting the above played with with the Webcam and set it to compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP 3) and it is now working, however the camera interface for the webcam is not as good as the Win7 interface. Odd thing though is that it all worked perfectly fine last night when I first posted up, and at that time all I did was load the software, connect the webcam and off I went - the cam was still as per original settings - for Win7.

Really strange why it stopped working under Win7 settings for the webcam, and then started working when set to XP!

Any ideas why this might be??

Cheers for your help.

If I can get all this working properly then I can invest in a full version when the trial period expires.

Cheers

Did you reboot the computer before finding it no longer worked? You know what they say: many problems can be fixed by a simple reboot...

Yes, I think I did. I will continue to play with it over the coming weeks and see if I can get it back to how it should be.

Re: Video Studio Pro

I have no idea what is going on with the software.

My son has spend the past couple of hours doing a stop motion clip. Ran (yes Ran) fine. It is saved on the Video Studio file and to a location on my PC. I can right click on the image of the file and it finds where it is on the PC. Going to that location on the PC I can see the uisx file and all the individual images, if I click on the 'video' file it goes to and opens VSP, but it won't play.

What is going on? Why is it that whilst working on the film clip it plays fine, and saves fine, but log off and then back on and it doesn't want to know?

Is this programme worth perservering with or is it a collossal waste of time?

What do I do?

How do I get it to work - this is the trial version - if this doesn't perform then what faith is there that the full bought version will work any better??

Help!!

Cheers

Usually, you don't click on the video file to open VS and get it to play. You normally have to open VS first then select the file you want it to play...

You may also want to look at the system tray or the task manager and see if the web cam software (Logitec) or a software that was bundled with your web came is running. That usually happens on my end when I try to do a stop-motion or capture using a web cam.

That is where the problems is - should there not be a facility to convert the video file so that it can be played on any machine? Currently I can only play the video on the PC that has the software, which is somewhat pointless - it'd be like Nick Park making his stop motion of Wallace & Grommit on a system but only being able to show it on his system at home (clearly he has 'proper' equipment, but he had to start somewhere!!). What I want is for ithe finished edited stop motion, with sound etc to be playable on any computer with Windows Media Centre or Windows Media Player.

I have tried other stop motion soft ware but the Corel one is the most intuitively easy to use, BUT for some reason doesn't want to work every time.

I have uninstalled my webcam software and reinstalled it, and checked that it is the most current version, and that there are no updates, and the Logitech web site has advised that I have the most up to date drivers, so there is no issue with the cam.

I note that Stop Motion has been added to VSP Pro X4 as it was not in X3 - is it possible that the Stop Motion element is a touch 'buggy' and hasn't been properly written by Corel??

I would so love this to work, but whay else can I do - I have reinstalled the webcam soft ware, checke the 30 day trial of Corel VSP X4, and still have problems.

its a matter of perserverance, but also some help and guidance from those with more experience.

Cheers

The USIX file is a proprietary working file for VS. In VS with your Stop Motion project loaded, go to the Share step, Create Video File, and select a format to render your project to. The rendered video file, for example, a WMV, MPEG, MP4, can then be played with a software media player, like WMP.

Where's the 'Thanks' button?? :D

Much appreciated - I am sure with help from this forum I will find a solution and get it working.

Not sure if the 30 day trial version, direct from Corel's website is working correctly - still not capturing images, and when I look at the Share step, the 'cretae video file' is greyed out - in otherwords not accessible and so not functioning.

Trying a fresh download of the trial version - reluctant to spend £50 on the full version if I can't get the trial to work - surely the trial should let you have access to allthe functions, but for a limited period of time, or is that not the case??

The 30-day trial just limits the content, and time. You will not have all the templates, or any bonus content, but the program will function just the same as a full purchased one.

Here's one that I just created. I used my digital-8 camcorder (Sony DCR-TRV 120) connected via Firewire to my PC. I don't have a webcam. I rendered the Stop Motion animation to a WMV video file.

First it's my understanding that you are able to capture/create the animation, which produces the UISX file, correct? If so then from there, this is what you need to do.
  • If you have not elected Save to Library, you need to load the UISX file into VS. To do this choose Insert Video, browse to where the UISX file is located on your system. If you did choose a Library to save it to, then you just need to drag it from the Library to the timeline.
  • Insert the USIX file to the timeline.
  • If you want to edit the clip, you can do so, apply effects and filters.
  • Go to the Share Step, Select Create Video File
  • Select a video file format, such as WMV, provide a location to render the file to, and a name. Just like rendering any other project.
  • Once you've rendered your video file, you can view it using your software media player.
The UISX file is a project file, Ulead Image Sequence and I'm not sure what the X represents, possibly Instructions. It is not a video file, that can be viewed or played outside of VS. It's similar to VS' VSP files. Just a bunch of instructions.

Once again, many thanks.

I have reinstalled VSP trial version and checked for service pack updates - still not got full functionality as the following 'buttons' are greyed out - Create Video File, Create Sound File, Esport to Mobile, Project Playback and HDV Record. The following are accessible - Create Disc, DV Record and Upload to Web

I will have a further play and follow your instructions to see hwo I get on - I am sure now that with a bought version not the trial version all my headaches would go away. Sad though that the trial can't give access to all the functions - even if in a limited way!

All the best
