videoStudio download

Post by joerog55 »

I live in Japan but prefer to use complicated software in my own language-English. I have been using AVS, Cyberlink Power Director, Ashampoo, and Roxio for video editing and producing DVDs. All have their good points and their bad ones. One good point is that on all of them I can use Japanese fonts when I need to but all the commands and descriptions are in English. Cyberlink gives me problems with codecs and instability, AVS is a slow and limited, Roxio conflicts with my other software, and Ashampoo is also limited and unstable. I have read a lot about VideoStudio enough to want to try it, but whenever I download the trial version, I get it in Japanese, because the server defaults to my region without considering the requested language. I have tried numerous times to send an e-mail to Corel, but when I compose and send, it discards my message and defaults to Corel Japan and I have to do the entire e-mail over in Japanese. It is almost unbelievable that the Corel website sends you around and around when all you want to do is send an inquiry! I have come to this forum as a last resort.

By the way, I tried to purchase via the Corel Store, as they have it on sale for $50 but Corel does not send to APO/FPO addresses (I work on a US military base and we are served only by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Corel only ships with FedEX. I have come across a few companies that are maddenlingly intransigent concerning their shipping policies. I recently terminated my business relationship with HP because they refused to send me ink cartridges to my APO address simply because they do not use US mail.

Anyway, my questions are: How do I download a trial of this software in English? And then if I like it , will I be able to purchase the license for the English version?
I use W7 Ult/64, Asus X58 MB, 2TB HDx2 (4TB), Intel Core I7 970, Nvidia Gforce 470, 6GB RAM, Acer 24" monitor,

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

As a "last resort", I can download the trial version, burn it to a CD, and mail it to you. (Just send me a private message with your mailing address.)

You can directly download the trial at http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... o_TBYB.exe, that from the Corel US site.

Thank you both responders to my inquiry. I went to the link that Abiel Corel provided and it enabled me to download a trial version in English, along with an excellent .pdf guide and the installer. I read the ,pdf, then installed the trial program. It was heartening to see the installation process in English right up to the user agreement, and the ads and promos throughout the installation. However, when the installation finished, a window came up in Japanese and asked me to register, and telling me I had 30 days to try it out along with the ubiquitous 'buy it now' option. I registered with a new p/w but was rejected because my e-mail address was already on file, so I registered using my old p/w. When I opened the program, again disappointingly the u/i was all in Japanese. Then when I closed it another window in Japanese came up telling me I had five days left for my trial (which coincides with my first attempt which apparently mad a lasting impression on my registry). I uninstalled it all and tried again with the same result. So I assume the trial program is identical no matter where it is downloaded from and within it is a scheme that detects the region and defaults to that region. Note that when I was doing the installation, it asked me to select my region from a long list of countries. I selected United States both attempts, selected NTSC and selected my installation drive, all to no avail. So, the kind offer of DVDDoug to mail me a Cd with the download on it would probably end with the same result.
In the meantime, I purchased a sealed box of the program on E-Bay (no FedEX hassle there!). When I get it and if I run into the same problem as with the trial software, and I exhaust all my ideas for tricking the program into thinking I am on an American version of the OS or in the US by region, then I will call for help from the experts to bypass this irksome feature.

Again, thanks for all your efforts and help.

Best regards,

Joseph

Hello and thanks to all who have offered help in my problem of getting VideoStudio to install in English. I purchased the boxed version from a stateside retailer and when I installed the same thing happened, it loaded in Japanese. So I went into the system parameters of the W7 64-bit OS and changed the languages of the user, admin, and system accounts to English. The next attempt at installing was successful and the program is now in English. Furthermore, I was able to use both English and Japanese fonts in titling and text, and the changes in the OS language did not affect my Japanese software. :D
