Re: Video Studio and MOV files
Hi Ken
Certainly X4 installs QT 7.5.5
I know that either X2 or X3 does not install Quicktime.
Not fully sure if its both versions or the one. (i think both)
The last time I re-installed the programs I did take particular note, but the memory being as it is, say no more……..
When we install VS 12 (X2) installation files are extracted and saved to a folder on the C:/Drive
Its these that install the program, viewing the Utilities folder does not show a QuickTime folder, so I assume its VS12 has no QT.
And going back to VS 10 QT is installed with the program, there is QT folder in the installation files of VS10 (V7.0.3.0), and VS9.
I don’t suppose it matters how its installed, I only know you need it.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
Just checked the disk from my retail boxed version of VS pro X2 (ultimate)
The “Utilities Folder” contains the following items;
QT v7.1.3.100
AcrobatReader
AVControlSDK
DVDCopy 6
DirectX Nov 2007
Flash Player
MSVC 2005
RealPlayer
WaveLab
WinDVD9
WM Encoder
I did/have not installed QT or other utilities from the disk for various reasons.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
Trevor.....I got back to your Tuesday note. I have always used the DV setting (Project Properties) which correspond to the DV/AVI files which I get from my SONY DCR HC96E camcorder, when I'm putting together content on the timeline.
I created a new project with the DV Project Property settings and loaded one of the Nikon files as you suggested. I played/previewed the clip in VS X2, it was very choppy and the sound was very out of sync. Then I went to "Share" and rendered an AVI file (note only the Nikon MOV file was loaded). When I play that file it is nearly perfect, I guess I can not trust the preview function when viewing MOV files???
Anyway thanks and I have now batch converted all of the MOV clips to AVI's.
I'll see how the PAL to NTSC conversion goes after I get the PAL project finished.
Thanks again....Rob

Hi Rob
Nice to hear you are making progress, the playback from the timeline does not truly represent the finished rendered quality.
However I would have thought it would have been better than you describe.
Are you using Smart Proxy? this should improve playback for HD files. Would not be needed for Batch convert.
Try converting a sample to Mpeg2, just to compare quality with the new DV-Avi types

And thanks to Shim for confirming that QT is in fact there in the X2 setup disc.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
For the record, I just dug out my download version of X2 and installed it on a big laptop which I just recently totally reformatted. I first confirmed that I had not yet installed either VS in any version nor QuickTime on it. The installation proceeded without incident, and reached a point where I was offered the option of installing a number of 'drivers'. These included QuickTime, WaveLab, Real, WinDVD etc. I accepted all of them. When installation was complete, I found that QuickTime version 7.1.3 indeed had been installed, as mentioned by Shim. So I am happy to see my memory was not at fault!

Trevor -- it could have been that you opted not to install QT when it reached that point in the installation process. You can untick the various boxes. And perhaps you might have done so because you already had another (earlier?) version of QT installed (to work with a previous version of VS??).

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
I have VS 12, VS Pro X3 and VS Pro X4 Ultimate installed on my machine. With the latest version of QuickTime, only VS Pro X4 (with or without Ultimate - recently upgraded) couldn't understand MOV files. When you Open to look for new files, and select All Video Formats, QuickTime is not shown. It is in VS 12 and VS Pro X3. This is a very serious bug that must be addressed by Corel. I can't be told to install QuickTime version 7.5 (it works with VS Pro X4 - I tested) because iTunes doesn't, and I couldn't use my iPad 2 anymore. Please don't even make that suggestion.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
There's something wrong with your installation, because Q.T. MOV is included in one of the file formats for VS X4. Don't worry we won't suggest that you make a decision on to use or not to use your ipod, or VS. But it's just a cold hard fact, that a version of Q.T. does not play well with both at the same time.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
And for the record, I have the latest version of QT (7.7) on my computer, and X4 has no difficulties with it. Indeed, for that matter -- whatever has happened -- X2 and X3 also work with 7.7 where before they would only work with the version that came with them.

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
Hi
I have just reinstalled Vista on my wife’s laptop, I have a few updates to install then I will install VS 12 and see if it also installs Quick Time. Followed by X3 and X4.
This time I will write the results down so I don’t forget.
Ken
During the installation I get no options to install other optional software, the only input I have to use is selecting the Pal or Ntsc option, otherwise the installation completes in one go.
(Sometimes I may have to click during Smart Sound installation as some samples may be already installed.?)
I can only assume that my download files are different to your file, certainly the disc version may differ
For what its worth VS 12 main program is called ESDVSPRX2IEPCPF.exe and is 174,798KB
Running this extracts files to a folder on my C:\Program Files\Corel\VS-Installation Files, these are used to install the program.
In addition I have Extra Contents and a Bonus file.
I think I may run a clean install on my XP Desktop, just in case there is a difference between XP and Vista.
Ok I will get back on this issue, probably with an apology………………..

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
My installation (download) folder is called UVS12_Ultimate_6in1_Retail. It operates from a Setup.exe file, and the various options I mentioned are included in a Utilities sub-folder. And the installation all completes in one sequence, though as I say I am presented with the options of which Utilities to install as part of that sequence. In other words, I don't install VS, then start off a separate install process with something else. Only one click on Setup and everything happens after that... And believe me, because of this thread, I watched the whole thing...!
But yes, it does sound as though we are operating from two different installation folders -- though mine sounds awfully like Shim's, only his was from a disc... My folder, BTW, was 1.71 GB in size...

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
Hi Ken/all
Quick Summery ,
Quicktime was not installed with my version of VS12
Quicktime 7.5.5 was installed with X3/X4
Installation of Video Studio 12
(X2) ESDVSPRX2IEPCPF.exe file extracts to a Corel Folder on C:Drive
Setup begins and asks for serial numbers.
Pal option selected Corel Video Studio 12 is installed.
I run the program and select the auto music option, I am shown the following window, “required Quicktime Components.........
Quicktime has not been installed.
I install the ProContents Pack to complete the installation. (VSX2ProContentPack_EN.exe)
again this extracts its contents to the Corel Folder and installs.
Again I run Video Studio 12 checking Auto Music….same response no Quick Time.
Finally I install the VSX2PROPATCH.exe fully completing the installation, except I do not have Quick Time Installed.
I cannot find any option to install Quicktime from the files purchased/downloaded from Corel.
Video Studio X3 installation
From the installation files I am able to select the AutoRun.exe file
A splash screen shows my install options.
The Utilities show Quicktime as an option
I choose the option Install Video Studio Pro X3
Installation is slower than X2, but the program is being fully installed, no extra content.
Installation completed including Quicktime. V7.5.5
I continued to install X4 as Ok, I know the same QT version will get installed as X3
Why I don’t have an option to install Quicktime from my Video Studio 12 files is a little strange.
The program runs ok

That DOES sound a little strange, especially when you ran the X2 Contents and Bonus features... Is there anything in either of those folders to indicate QT is there but requires manually installation?

Re: Video Studio and MOV files
When the Corel technician took control of my desktop, he did find the Quicktime7.exe in an installation folder :
1.5.1.001 > CDS > RunTime > QuickTime > QuickTime7.exe
Since the folder was deleted after the X3 installation, what he did was started the X3 installation (that got the package decompressed), went to Windows Explorer, found that folder with all installation files and copied it to my desktop, then stopped the X3 installation which blew away the installation file keeping a copy. Now he had the older version of QuickTime which he proceeded to install and it fixed X4 Pro. I didn't test iTunes at that time, and found that it was not able to start later. I had to reinstall iTunes which installed a newer version of QuickTime by default, and the problem was back.
Since I can't use Pro X4 Ultimate, I might as for my money back. I haven't received a response from Corel Support yet about a fix for QuickTime.

There is nothing that remotely looks like a QuickTime file within the downloads for Video Studio X2.
I have had suspicions that video studio programs were different depending on where you purchased them.
Which does not help when comparing programs over the forum.
A recent post regarding Flash indicates having 3 default FLV templates yet I only see 2. (must follow that up????)
And if the programs are different it goes a long way in understanding why some users have problems whilst others with the seemingly same setup don’t have the same issues.
By the way I downloaded VS12 from the US site, cos it was cheaper. Just goes to show cheap is not always the best.
