make a video mask that looks like a photo

Post by phnxrsngbr »

Hi everyone,

So sorry, I can't seem to find any masks, or make a successful one myself in Paint Shop Pro, that creates a white photo border around a video, to make it look like a bordered photograph. All the edges I've made want to let the video show through the white border. Any ideas how to do this? I just need a white border around a video to appear as if it's a photograph.

Thanks!

Actually it's way easier than making your own..;)

Your photo needs to be in an overlay track, they can be full screen or any smaller size. Click on the Mask & Chroma-key icon. In the upper left of the Attribute tab, you will see 2 number/spin boxes, one of them has a color box, which defaults to white, to its right. The default number is 0. Increase the number, and watch a border appear around your photo.

You don't say what version you're using. With VS X3 & X4 you're provided with New Blue PiP filter. This is a fantastic filter, which give you the ability to have very flexible borders, such as blur-in/out, or solid colors.

Explore both those options. Like I said it's really much easier to do a simple border in VS, than having to make them in a photo editor, unless you're wanting something real fancy and complex...;)

WOW! I've spent all night searching for tutorials on how to do exactly that! Thanks Ron! I'm using VS X4, but don't see the New Blue PIP yet. Does that come with all X4 purchases?

Thanks VERY much!!

I just found it. I didn't know that PIP was picture-in-picture. Ron, is there a class or tutorial series that I can read and practice with that will teach me these things, so I don't bother you guys with such basic things?

There's several tutorials around. Just need to do some searching. Corel hosts most of their video tutorials on Youtube or Vimeo. Just go to either of them and search for VideoStudio Pro. We also have several in our Video Products Tutorials forum.

Then you can also open the Corel Guide, it's the orange round button with the down-arrow surrounded by dots, found in the upper right corner. The Vimeo video tutorials for VS X4 are right there.
