My video properties are 16:9, but VSX4 isn't letting me change them. And there's no splash screen to start with.
How do I change it? I just spent weeks going through all of my photos and putting the 4:3 on backgrounds to make them all 16:9. My video is already at 16:9.
Help!
Widescreen aspect ratio 16:9 greyed out...

It works in VSX3. I'm getting the widescreen.

Re: Widescreen aspect ratio 16:9 greyed out...
Okay, I was able to edit Project Properties and get the proper 16:9, but Settings > Widescreen (16:9) is still greyed out.

Sorry, I thought it would be an easy fix. You know, like it always is? Something I'm just overlooking? *lol*Ron P. wrote:Hi Lisa,

Oh, something I noticed. In the project properties, Project template properties, I'm only seeing the AVI as an option. In VSP3, I have an mpeg option as well.
Describe your problem: Can't choose 16:9 aspect ratio
Properties of your source files, including video, audio, image files (format, file size, where did you get it?): 609K avi from Canon Elura (just to start)
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: Downloaded movies to hard drive, no devices involved at this point.
Project Properties (important):
NTSC non-drop frame (30 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 15 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
Interleave audio for every 8 frames
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD): DVD
Output Properties (cogwheel in lower left of burn screen): haven't gotten that far
PAL or NTSC: NTSC

Re: Widescreen aspect ratio 16:9 greyed out...
Ok, Your Elura records DV (avi). So your project properties should be :
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- NTSC, 48.000 kHz, 16Bit, Stereo
First your Frame Rate is way too slow, it should be 29.97fps for NTSC. Next it should be Lower Field First, and not Frame Based. DV is always Lower Field First. I looked up your camera, and found the specs on it. It is a mini-DV, and it records DV...
Open the Preferences dialog (press F6 on your keyboard), then on the General tab (first one), the first option below Project, Show message when inserting first video clip to timeline, make sure that is checked. VS will now prompt you to change the Project settings to match that of the video file. Does not work for all video formats, but does for DV and MPEG-2.
If you're going to render a video file to be used to burn a video DVD, then in the share step, go to Create Video File>DVD>DVD VIdeo 16:9. This will provide you with a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file. In the Create Video File dialog window, click on the Options button, and make sure that Perform Non-square pixel rendering is checked. This is what makes 720 x 480 wide screen. The non-square pixels.

Re: Widescreen aspect ratio 16:9 greyed out...
Thank you! Yay, it shows!
And the properties I posted weren't the actual properties, I was looking at the ones that you get when you Alt+Enter, didn't even think about clicking on the video in the timeline. Dur.
Everything is as you listed with the exception of the audio and it's PCM, 32,000 kHz, 16bit, stereo. I must have done that when I downloaded it (I download on a different machine - Win7, this one, XP pro, won't read from the video camera, keeps telling me I need a driver and we all know that's a bald faced lie, I need nothing of the sort).
Thanks, again! I've got about a thousand bazillion photographs and fifty nine thousand hours of video to edit now (at least that's what it seems like at the start of the project *lol*).
