BAD SOUND Compression VS x4

Post by mbp06 »

Hi Everyone,

I did not find any help by searching on the forum, so I post this one.

I made a project made of 720P videos + photos + comments etc.
Duration : 1h23mn

Aim : have a nice HD project with a good quality sound around 4,5 GB (in order to burn on a DVD)

what I did : once finished, I created a customised video like this : mp4 container, 1280x720 30i/s H264 8000kps video, with AAC maximum quality
résult : a wonderful quality video, with bad sound too compressed

I tried the same with another combination : avi container, 1280x720 30i/s Xvid 720P + MP3 320 stereo VBR or CBR
same result : a good quality video (but too big) with a bad sound rendition too compressed..the same than AAC.

Finally : I tried the same AVI VIDEO quality with a PCM audio combination
Résult : the sound is perfect like original but the file obtained is way too big (more than 20 gb)

indication : I also tried to make an audio file without video, with mp3/aac etc..
result : good sound quality, accurate compared to original.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY, I CAN'T HAVE VIDEO/AUDIO Project with normal lossy audio quality ??
If you read from beginning, the best would be : H264 8000kps + PCM audio -->but it's an impossible combination !! Unfortunately, Corel does not include ALAC codec...it could have worked...maybe ??

Anyway, if someone could help me... All this time to build the project..and then failing to have a good audio compression...it's frustrating

Thanks in advance

I would have thought that, if indeed your intention is to create a hybrid AVCHD DVD (i.e. with a Blu-Ray BDAV/BDMV structure on it, and not Video_TS), you would need to convert your project to output in AVCHD format (.m2ts/mpg), rather than mp4. I know that AVCHD is of course mpeg-4, but if you choose mpeg-4 as the output format, it uses different flags. And you would use Dolby audio when outputting your AVCHD. What you have to remember is that whether you are producing a hybrid DVD or standard def DVD, it has to conform in the end to an international standard if it is to be played by a Blu-Ray players (hybrid disc) or DVD player (standard DVD). And the audio formats you have been playing with are not part of those international standards. Ditto with ALAC...

To make a custom template, you would choose mpeg transport stream as the format, and then specify AVCHD on the compression tab. Mind you, I suspect you are not going to get the exact properties you are after. But either way, there is going to have to be some further format conversion going on somewhere in the overall workflow.

thanks for trying to help.

my aim is to read the final rendition on PC ...or possibly on a Home Divx/DVD player .. so standards do not seem to be important for me..(especially for PC rendition)..

my question would be : is Corel VS X4 capable to deliver a good rendition of a H264/AAC (mp4) video or XVID/Mp3 (AVI)video or h264/Dolby (m2t)video with an ACCURATE/GOOD sound ? the point is : only PCM audio delivers something accurate, or just mp3 without video... is it normal ?
I don't care if the sound is compressed...but in my case the sound is compressed but no clear at all !
