VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
Hi
Yes I know it's an old version but it's done me proud so far.
Problem - upgrading to a new PC running Windows 7 Professional - thought I'd try installing VS6.
Appears to work OK - except that there is no sound on playback within VS6 - albeit files that have been captured (using VS6 on Windows 7 os) play sound OK if using Windows media player.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Les

Hi Les
As you say VS 6 is very old, I am certain that it is not supported / compatible with Windows 7.
But I don’t blame you for giving it a run.
What type of audio are the video clips using, certainly Digital Dolby is not supported by VS6
What type of video files are you using?????

Hi Trevor
Video files when captured are in AVI format - not sure about the audio - where can I check that ?
Thanks

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
You right click on one of the clips *inside* VS -- either in the timeline or in the library window. Then copy ALL the Properties here, please...

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
Well you DV files use absolutely rock standard LPCM audio and in theory should play in anything. So I too would put your problem fairly and squarely in the category of VS 6 being totally incompatible with Win 7...

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
Hi Ken
Thanks for that - wouldn't say totally incompatible
I can use it and play back files within WMP to get the sound - will have to see how much else I can get away with without having to upgrade.
Again - thanks for your help
Cheers

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
When Vista was first released there was a problem getting sound with MediaStudio Pro. There's a post about how to get around this. You might read it and see if you get any ideas that may help. http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=25938
You may have to use a Windows Classic theme. I'm not sure Win7 has that ability.

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
If you upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, then you can install the free Virtual Window XP, and you may continue to use old programs; however, I don't know whether this old version of VS runs in XP. I can vouch that this works for old versions of Corel Draw, and many of my old programs run fine in this Virtual XP. I even recently installed a very old Spanish Translator program that I had in my bookcase and had not used in over five years. The Spanish Translator installed and runs perfectly in this Virtual XP... Al

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
Hi Ron
That looks a little too complex for me
Al
I do have a virtual Win Xp and tried installing VS6 (as it previously worked fine in XP) However, experienced problems installing - possibly to do with Quicktime - will try to get my techie neighbour to see if he can get it installed in virtual XP
Thanks all for your help

Re: VideoStudio 6 - No Sound
Hi Les
If my memory isn’t fooling me I recall other posts regarding DV-Avi not playing audio, not sure if they were related to W7, but I don’t know if they found a solution, maybe do a search of the forum.
Very strange as the Dv-Avi is normally rock solid and probably the easiest video format to edit.
It is possible that the final rendered video will play audio.
Try these options:-
Place a short clip in the timeline, try playing in both Clip and Project playback modes.
Any sound at all?
Share Create Video File Same as first clip. View the resultant file.
Share Create Sound File will create a Wav file of the full project duration, does that play.
That’s if VS6 has this option?
Les what are you trying to make a standard DVD or video for the internet.
