Newbie question... I'm getting multiple WMV files rendered

Post by USS_Sandhu »

Hi all,

Brand spankin' new user to X4. I'm working on a fairly simple slideshow that starts with a 15 second MOV file, followed by 10 pictures at 3 second intervals along with some background music. The issue I'm having is that when I go to generate a WMV file (or any format), X4 renders multiple times and spits out multiple files.

I'm sure there's a setting somewhere that I haven't set properly... any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
- Sam

Hi Sam
and welcome to the forums

I have never heard of Video Studio creating more then one file when doing a straight render.
So I doubt that you have selected the wrong options.

Can you explain in more detail just what you did to create another video file.

Normally you would do Share Create Video File, then choose a template.
What did you do?

Welcome to the forums, :)

Congratulations, you're the first to report this sort of problem, in all of VS history.. How did you manage to get the program to render numerous files from one project? I guess that's what you'd like to know..

So what workflow did you use? Once you were finished editing, did you just go to Share>Create Video File, and select one of the WMV file templates?

Did you purchase the newly released Ultimate? Click on the orange round button with the dots and downward facing arrow in the upper-right corner, then click on the cogwheel icon in the upper-right corner of the ensuing window (Corel Guide), select About Corel VS X4, On the left side, just below the image, it should read Corel VideoStudio Pro 14.1.0.107, the numbers being the build. Your's maybe a little different, as you may not have applied the Service Pack (SP1). What I'm interested in, is if the newer Ultimate is using a different build.

If you have not applied any patches, you can have the program Check for Updates, found in the same menu as the About Corel.... OR you can go to Corel's website and click on the Patches and Updates link.

Basically, provided us more detail of what you done, so we can have a better idea of where something is behaving real weird..;)

I'm the first one to report this? Figures... that's the kind of luck I have! :)

So the problem is solved... sort of. I converted the MOV file to AVI and used that instead, and now VS is only rendering once! Stupid MOV format. I'm running 14.1.0.107 and was trying to convert to WMV 720p format and it was running thru the render process 10 or 12 times, and actually generating that many WMV files. Very odd. And this was happening for any export, WMV, AVI, MP4, whatever.

I'm guessing I have some oddball MOV codecs on my machine and they're the root cause. I'll just convert the MOVs to AVIs and carry on :)

Thanks all,
- Sam

The MOV container has always been somewhat problematic for VS. Most of the time the cure is rolling back the version of QuickTime Player, but VS X4 seems to behave better with the most current. Where did your MOV file originate ? If it was from a camera/camcorder, what make/model ? We could research this to see if there's something unique about the codec being used.

MOV as I previously stated is a container format, that can house a variety of different codecs to include *.avi , *.mp4, Sorenson, and others. It's the codecs that really make or break things. MOV files are generally associated with the Mac platform, and so is treated differently when used on PCs.

Other NLEs (Non-Linear Editing) programs sometimes install their own version of codecs, and can conflict with ones already installed. Also what I consider a big "no-no" is to install Codec Packs. These are sometimes thrown together with quantity rather than quality in mind. These can not only conflict with other codecs in the same pack, but with codecs already installed on your system. If you feel the need to install an additional codec, it's best to pick the one from such a pack, and install it alone, rather than dump the whole pack onto your system.
