Videostudio Pro X3 noob question

Post by deathvalleydog »

I'm sure this is all easy to do, but I'm new to this program and can't figure these out:

#1 I'm putting video to a song, and I need to be able to add clips at various specific places in the music and then go back and fill in the empty spaces. How do I adjust the settings so I can do that? As it is now, each clip just attches to the clip before it. And if I shorten a clip, all the clips after it shift as well, which messes up the syc to the music.

#2 Why do all the clips that get dropped in the overlay track show up shrunk in the preview window? It is possible to stretch them out, but it is a total pain.

Again, I'm sure these are simple fixes, but I'm :? and can't figure it out.

Anyone willing to take pity and help me out?

Welcome to the forums!

It is probably easier to handle your second question first. Simply open Settings > Preferences > Edit, and tick the box beside 'Use fit to screen as default size in overlay track'. That way, your inserted clips will fill the screen. This is not enabled by default since many (most?) users want overlays to cover only part of the screen.

With that in place, you can now use the overlay tracks to insert your clips to be in time with the music.

If you were using the main track, on the other hand, you would need to insert coloured panels e.g. black, between clips and stretch them out to the required duration before inserting the next clip. But that is more laborious and time consuming.
