I have a nephew that send me a bunch of video's from his camera, they are 90 degrees to the left.
Is the easiest way or only way to do it is the use the roate filter?
He has sent me several to do.

Re: rotating video in VS3
There are also rotate buttons on the Photo panel. You can click them to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. If you double-click on a photo on the timeline VSX3 should open up the Photo panel with the rotate buttons.
If you have many photos that need rotating in the same direction, you can apply the Rotate FX to one photo, and copy and paste the attributes to other photos.
Copy the attributes of the photo you rotated with the Rotate FX (right-click and select "copy attributes" from pop up menu). Select all the other photos you want rotated (be careful and select all you want rotated except for the one you just rotated). Next paste attritubes to any of the selected photos (right-click and select "paste attributes" from the pop up menu). All the selected photos will have the Rotate FX applied automatically. NOTE: any other effects applied to a photo are also copied and pasted.

Re: rotating video in VS3
Kingston -- the problem with your suggestion is that, if I have read it correctly, brucefl has *video*, not photos, which need rotating. Certainly you would use the same buttons, but the problem is that when video is rotated, you end up with a narrow video stream in the middle of the screen, and ultimately lose quite a bit off the top and bottom since video is normally a good deal wider than it is tall... I had exactly this problem recently when a friend returned from Africa with video she took for the very first time on a camcorder. The trouble was, she thought of the camcorder as being the same as a still camera, and so a lot of her better shots were taken "artistically" sideways. I managed to salvage something from this by rotating the video to its correct orientation, then squeezing two or three strips of it sequentially across coloured screens, and that type of thing, which in moderation can make a video overall look a bit more 'professional' -- and also cover up an egregious mistake such as this.
I too would be interested to hear if anyone else has found a better way to do things with VS. But I rather think you would need a very much more sophisticated editing program to be able to both rotate and save the full width of every frame of the original.

Re: rotating video in VS3
I was just wondering whether their was an easier way then using the rotact effect. I do realize that in this case the video will be long an narrow.
Though it is the best way I have seen to do this. The problem when people use droids then tend to want to get close and a full view, but in
doing so when putting it on a dvd you get an elongated picture.
Another problem to fill the whole screen you would need to stretch the sides so it would look even worse lol
Thanks, and I will keep watching

Re: rotating video in VS3
Ken, thanks for pointing out the flaw in my post.
The Rotate effect has an option to "Fit in Window" so that you don't lose part of the top and bottom after the video is rotated.
NewBlueFX has an interesting effect called Background Generator. It's in their Video Essentials V collection. There's also another effect in that collection called Progressive Stretch. They are for situations like you have. The collection isn't cheap, but you can download a trial version and maybe get some ideas. http://www.newbluefx.com I received a coupon for half price for registering one of their products almost a year ago, so I picked up three collections including V for half price.

Re: rotating video in VS3
I forgot to mention when I do the rotate, I rotate the video 90 degrees so it stays in position (as far as I can tell), though the thumbnail does not change. I do not loose anything that I can see. Of course that is if I am doing it correctly?
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Re: rotating video in VS3
Well as long as all the people in the video are now standing up you must be nearly right - but you must now have a verticle letterbox in the middle of your screen - if it fits side to side you must have lost some of the top and bottom of the video frame.

Re: rotating video in VS3
I will know when I put the next video in. I it letterboxed in the middle of the screen, but it appears the whole picture is there. When I rotate it 90 degrees right, it is letterboxed on the right and left side instead of top to bottom.
