Going to upgrade my comp. Find when using HD files rendering is slow.
Anyone care to suggest some good specs, please look at my current specs.
Running XP 32bit, going to change to Window 7, 64 bit, mainly so I can use PS cs5.
Cheers

Re: Good computer specs
Are you looking for a desktop or a laptop?
In any case, I can suggested that you just get one of those gaming laptop since those laptop practically have the best specs around. About the RAM.

Re: Good computer specs
Is CS5 64-bit? If so, it may tax your new system (esp. memory) as much as VS. In any case, given what you have now, you'll be very pleased with any reasonable current-generation system.
Look for quad-core i5 or i7, and all things being equal, go for higher clock speed (not so much a big deal for rendering with these powerful CPUs, but important when using a single-threaded process such as editing). In other words, at a given price point, I'd go for i5 with higher clock speed over i7 with slower clock. (Don't forget to look at any equivalent AMD processors.)
Get 6GB memory (or more, if CS5 can take advantage of it).
Get lots of disk, it's cheap, and video gobbles it up. Estimate how much you'll need, including for backup, and double that. 7200 RPM is fine.
Get dual DVD drives. Not expensive, and makes copying discs a lot more convenient. Even if you get pricier Blu-ray, this is worth considering.
Don't forget a Firewire (1394) card, if you need it for video capture. Dirt cheap. Note that many higher-end systems will already have Firewire on the motherboard.
HTH,

Re: Good computer specs
Upgraded today.
CS 5 requires 64 bit.
Power supply 850 watts
Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
2 TB hard space (it was on sale
)
8GB ram
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5G41T-M LX Rev X.0x
My budget was limited, will run this for now see how it works. Next will most likely be Quad core like Boo suggested.

Re: Good computer specs
This week going to upgrade my CPU, so i5 or i7?
Boo mentioned i5 higher clock speed over i7, anyone care to add to this?
Thanks
