Warning message upon saving

Post by Cassel »

I noticed a fairly new behavior with my PSP. When i Save as... and save as a pspimage, i get this warning:
Because of the limitations of the specified file format(and possibly the save options you've selected), any unsupported vector data will be lost. Would you like to continue?
I dont remember specifically any change or anything that might have cause this to start but i know it was not like that before. In fact, i would get that message if i was to save as a jpg accidentally.

Today, someone asked me the same question because she too, started getting that warning.

Anyone knows what button i might have accidentally pushed or what setting could have been changed unwillinly?

In the Save As dialog box, click on Options and check to see which version of PSP you have it set for. Set it to the version of PSP that you're using so that nothing will be lost.

Thanks Linda. That might solve the popup problem but it would cause the problem of not having my images compatible with previous versions, which is necessary for me AND which WAS working fine before. Any other setting to check/change?

How many versions back do you need to save your files? It's possible that you won't lose anything if your previous version of PSP supports vector. Try saving a test file that's compatible with your older PSP and see what happens. Just because you're getting that warning doesn't necessarily mean that you'll actually lose vector data.

I usually work with PSP9 and need it compatible with PSP8. I tested saving a file as version 9 and i cannot open it in 8. I know that there is nothing "lost" when i save in 9 but i am only annoyed with the popup which does not mean anything since nothing is lost. I usually get that if i have some vector or text. Like i said, i didn't have that popup before and it was working fine, so maybe i changed something accidentally.

You might also check in the Preferences, Warnings and Auto-actions to see if one of them has been changed. I think it would be in the Warnings section, but I'm not sure which it would be.

Thanks for the suggestion Ron, but that is the first thing i did (that was actually my tip of the week in my newsletter!) and i could not find that specific warning (unless it is phrased much differently)

Is this new behavior observed on all files with vector content? If not, then maybe the files themselves have some feature that may not be fully backward compatible between PSP 9 and PSP 8.

According to the PSP 9 ReadMe file, there were changes made to the Text Tool and the Pen Tool. Also, the Rectangle, Ellipse, and Symmetric Shape tools are new (as compared with previous versions of PSP). It is possible that some specific setting or feature of one of the changed tools, or the use of one of the new tools, could cause that message. I have not done any specific testing, so this is something of a SWAG.

Also, I think the warning to which Ron was referring is WARNING - file format limitations.
