Videostudio Pro x3 .wmv saving issue

Post by mrover »

Just started having this problem yesterday.... When i try to direct upload to Vimeo and save my video as a .wmv 640x480, everything seems to work until after it renders. After this the video is saving as .wmv 208x160, which becomes very cluttered and blurry.... Have been using x3 for about a month and a half now and never had this problem until yesterday. Used to just Share to Vimeo and save as 640x480 and worked just fine. Have no idea what the problem is........

Welcome to the forums, :)

What are the properties of the video file(s) you're rendering/converting from? Right-click on them in the timeline or library, select properties, and post them here. Any reason why you want the video file you're uploading to Vimeo to be 640 x 480 WMV? I think part of the answer to that lies in the answer to the previous question.
After this the video is saving as .wmv 208x160,
This could be why, that is more of an email sized video. Vimeo should accept even the high-def resolutions. Unless there is a bandwidth issue, or your ISP is just so slow, there shouldn't be much of a reason to down-scale/res, your video. If your project and video clips are for example, 720 x 480 then use that. It will have a much better quality displayed on Vimeo.

If you're wanting to use WMV, which there's nothing wrong with that, then try to use a template. There are several WMV Profiles to choose from. When you render your project (Share>Create Video File), choose Custom located at the very bottom of the menu. Then in the Create video file dialog window, change the Save as type to Windows Media Video. Now press the Options button, go to the Profile tab, and press the drop-down menu for Profile. You can then select one that fits your project more closely. I use Ulead-720 x 480 NTSC Stereo, if I'm going to render a video project having the same resolution to WMV. If your located in PAL regions, there's profiles for PAL too.

Hi
and welcome to the forums……

When I do Share – Upload to Vimeo I see options for creating Mpeg4 either 4:3 or 16:9
I do not see the WMV option.

Can you give more detail as to what you are doing.
Are you rendering the project to a WMV then using the Upload to Vimeo Browse option.????????

I would suggest selecting MPEG-4 HD (16:9)

Hey guys.... First thing, thank you for your replys.... I am very new to editing video so I just started using Videostudio Pro X3, and kind of just learning as I go. So what I am trying to do is take instructional videos that we have recorded on an HD camera and editing them in X3 and then uploading them to Vimeo. The thing is that we have hundreds of short videos (5-30 second) that we are going to end up editing, with the final product being 30-60 seconds(after all the titles and effects are added). This is why I was choosing the .wmv 640x480 (for the smaller size). As I said above, there was never a problem in the past, but the last couple of days it goes through everything normal, but when I go to the folder in which it saved the video it is 208x160..... The properties of the original videos are:

Format: NTSC HDMV
File Size: 23,472 KB
Duration: 8.509 seconds
Video Type: H.264 Video, Upper Field First
Total Frames: 255 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 16:9
Frame rate: 29.970 frames/sec
Data Rate: Variable bit rate (Max. 22699 kbps)

These videos are going to be used for online training. I was thinking that I would like to figure out the .wmv 640x480 since I have already created many this size to keep the format consistent (and to keep the smaller size). But as I mentioned, I am a newbie to the video editing process. Is this the best format that I could use?? Would definitely be up for suggestions from anyone.

Again, thank you for your help, this has been very frustrating for me!!

Hi

Your original video files are 1920 x 1080, this is 16:9 aspect ratio.

The WMV frame size of 640 x 480 is 4:3 aspect ratio.

When you convert you should use the same aspect, otherwise the video frame will either de distorted or have a black border left and right.
Video Studio provides some standard templates, others being created using Custom or the Make Movie Templates Manager.

You say “This is why I was choosing the wmv 640x480 (for the smaller size).”
How exactly did you choose this option.?

Can you explain exactly how you are converting the 1920 video file to WMV????????

When I was sharing videos in the past, I would choose "Upload to Vimeo" and select WMV 640x480 after editing. There would be no problems and it would render and the new file would be 640x480 and look good. The properties of the new WMV would be:

File Format: Windows Media Video
File size: 1,982 KB
Duration: 26.515 seconds
Data rate: 769 kbps
Video: Windows Media Video 9
24 bits, 640 x 480, 29.970 frames/sec
Aspect ratio: 1.33 : 1.00

Now, WHENEVER I try to "Upload to Vimeo" and save as a WMV, no matter what size I choose to save as, my videos are automatically being saved as 208x160.... I tried to save as 1280x720, 640x480 and 320x240, but it seems to be defaulting and saving as 208x160.... Like I said before, this just started happening recently as it used to render and save as 640x480 WMV without any problems...

Also, if I try to do do the following: "Create Video File -> Custom-> save as type "Windows Media Video"... the only choices I have are shown in the screen shot in the attachment...

Could this possibly be a Windows Media Player problem???

Thanks again for all your replys and help

Hi

If that image is showing the full profiles then the list is not complete.
I see at least double that amount, some for Windows Media Video 9, and many Video Studio templates as Ulead WMV.

However I am running Windows XP not W7.

Try updating Windows Media Player to the latest version.
There was a Windows Media Encoder that installed WMV templates, I believe this has be superseded by Windows Expressions (or something like that)

You could create your own profile, from the Profile tab choose “customise-new”
However from what you are saying its encoding incorrectly os an update of WMV is on the cards.

I notice that the video files properties show as Windows Media Video 9
Yet the image showing the profile does not

Have you changed, installed anything to affect this.?

Thanks Trevor.... That is why I was wondering if Windows Media Player may be the problem.... One thing that I do remember doing when I wasn't having problems and right before I started having issues was an update to Shockwave player.... The update to shockwave also installed and ran PC Registry Mechanic on my computer.... I have since uninstalled PC Registry Mechanic, but am wondering if something that did may have affected VideoStudio or Windows Media Player. I am going to try to update Media Player this morning and see if that solves the issue, because I also noticed this morning that the video I saved that worked fine was showing 9 and all of my save options showed 8.

Thanks again, I am hoping this is the problem (fingers crossed)

I just checked and I seem to be running the latest version of Windows Media Player (Version 12.0.7601.17514)... Another thing that happened before I started having problems with this was a Windows Update.... Not sure if this may have changed something???

Thanks again

What is missing is the Windows Media Encoder 9 series. I'm not sure how or if Win7 will even allow it. I tried searching Microsoft for it, but so far have not been able to relocate where it can be downloaded. This is something totally different than Windows Media Player.

Well doing some looking, it seems that MicroSoft retired Windows Media Encoder in 2010, replacing it with Expression Encoder 4. Right now I know nothing about this encoder, however I am downloading and installing it to learn more.

I saw that same thing about Windows Media Encoder 9. I am thinking of doing a system restore back to August 11th and seeing if that fixes anything... i have never ran a system restore, is this easily undone if the problem is not fixed???

If you set a restore point where you're system is right now. Then it's just a matter of restoring it forward to now.

Hi

Strange I thought I had replied to you at 2pm, maybe I sent to the wrong post …..

I think PC Registry Mechanic is probably the culprit.

I would re-install Windows Media Player, if that does not work, re-install Windows Expressions.

I did suggest a System Restore depending on when you ran PC Registry Mechanic, with the comment that I do not like doing it.

Besides WMV 9 missing there is no Ulead Neptune options, however I do not know if these are installed with the latest Corel products.
You can however create your own template, but the encoder is messing up the templates it has.

Hey guys I did a System Restore back to before the Registry Mechanic and my Corel seems to be working as it did before. I am going to individually reinstall the important Windows Updates and see if any of them affected VideoStudio at all, but I am hoping that it was the Registry Mechanic and the problem is solved now...

Haven't been able to use it much yet obviously, but it seems to be back to normal (one can only hope).

Thank you all for your help and I will update this post if I find the problem was not solved. Thanks again!
