I am having a problem creating a DVD. I save the video file as per the documentation and then choose Share, create a High Definition DVD. When I get to the create screen, I see a project name but my DVD drive is not identified and shows a red empty for the Dsic type.
I have previously used several Corel programs and Windows to demonstrate I can write DVDs, Corel DVD Copy 6 & Corel Direct DiscRecorder 3.5.
Both VS Prox4 & DVD Movie Factory are giving me a similar problem, i.e., will not write a DVD. My old version of DVD MF that came with VS ProX3 worked fine on the same computer hardware & software. What has changed is my upgrade to VS Prox4.
DVD MF shows the Next button active, but when I try to go to the DVD write screen, it just sits there or I get a "not responding" error from Windows OS.
I have all the latests versions of software and have removed & re-installed VS Prox4 as directed by Corel support. Currently they have not responded to any of my latest Emails.
Can you help me get beyond this issue?
Thanks snobird23

Re: VS4X Pro- Does not recognize my LG DVD Drive
In Windows > Computer, does the drive show up?nd if so, when you right click on it and select Properties, is the drive properly identified? I just happen to have an LG burner in this computer I am using and mine shows up as 'HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50' though yours may have a different final set of numbers and letters for a different model. But all I am trying to do is establish whether your computer can currently actually see the drive correctly.
The other thing to check for, if you have either Nero or the Roxio suite loaded, is whether Nero's InCD program and its Roxio equivalent are loaded. With InCD you can check in Control Panel > Programs and Features as it is loaded separately as an individual program. If it is there, then uninstall it (NOT/NOT the whole Nero program). With the Roxio one, it can be disable internally and does not need uninstallation. These pieces of software are called packet writers, and are known to take command of burner drivers, denying use of them to programs like VS.
The only other thing I can think of is to update your Direct|X 11 to the latest build. This is known to correct some problems such as this which are introduced by Windows Updates of the operating system. There is a link and instructions in a sticky post up towards the top of this forum.
Disabling hyperthreading in your system BIOS has also been known to correct problems such as these experienced by other users who also have i7 processors and running Windows 7 64 bit. However, this is a far from ideal solution.

Re: VS4X Pro- Does not recognize my LG DVD Drive
Ken,
I do not have either DVD burning programs you referenced, Nero or Roxio.
The device Manager shows my LG drive as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22US40 ATA device.
I installed a tial version of PowerDiector9 and it sees my DVD drive fine. Within 5 minutes I was writing DVDs with no problems.
My VS3X did not have any problem writing DVDs, although the method used has changed in the this release.
I believe Corel has a major program problem that they have not fixed.
None of the fixes they have specified have help at all, just wasted my time.
I will try the direct x update, but frankly I am tried of messing around with the app & am sorry I ever bought this upgraded.
Thanks for you help.

Hi
There is an update patch for X4
I don’t know if this will help, but may be worth trying the VideoStudio Pro X4 Service Pack 1
Assuming you haven’t already installed.

I'm sorry to hear that snobird23, I would suggest that you call our Tech Support in your region. You can find a complete list of the Tech Support number here.
Then give them the case number that I sent you via private message.

Abiel -- the point is that she has already been in touch with Corel support, but the fixes they suggested did not work and moreover they are now not answering her emails. So I am not sure your suggestion will produce any positive reaction, either from snobird or from Corel!
She said in her last post:

Re: VS4X Pro- Does not recognize my LG DVD Drive
Everytime I login to VS4X, I check the make sure I have the latest updates. I have already installed VS4X SP 1prior to contacting Texch support. I also have the latest version of MF 7 pro.
I removed VS4 and installed a box version of VS4 by following the ftp directions of Tech support. My problem remais as before, neither MF 7 Pro nor Vs4x will burn DVDs.

Hi
I know that you have had enough of re-installing patches etc.
But when you re-installed Direct X did you actually download the file or just installed via the web.
I find the web install to be quite quick compared to the manual approach, as though its checking the files rather than updating them???
The manual approach requires you to………..
1 / Download the file
2 / Run the file to extract its content, save to a new folder
3 / Run the DXSETUP.exe file.
