Hi MrDill

I am aware that there is a problem when creating/inserting chapter points within the project.

I can only recommend that you create the chapters after doing Share Create Disc.

After inserting your files to the burner module………

The first page gives you the option to Add/Edit Chapters selecting this option opens another page.
Here you add your chapter points, a clip/thumbnail will be placed in the timeline for each chapter point created.
OK will close that window

Choosing Next will progress to the Gallery/Edit window
Immediately below the preview screen are the words “Currently Displayed menu” and Main Menu
Using the dropdown box select the chapter menu (probably named untitled)
The preview screen will display your chapter menu page, here you can re-name the links on screen from chapter01 to a text of your choice, double click the word chapter01

Finally when you have completed all the menu pages Preview the work to view the menu structure and chapter names. If they are as you require/like then burn a disc.

Just got the final email from Corel. Which was the typical "wash their hands of this", email. They've closed it since I didn't respond with all that requested, which included sending them the files where this problem was. How the heck is someone suppose to email a 350MB file? So I guess this is another major bug that they will continue to ignore.

The Chapter cues while they can be added in the editor, will only be carried over to the burn module if you choose Share>Create Disc and use your project file. Labeling or naming them in the editor is useless so don't. Name your chapters in the burn module, not the editor. If you choose to create a video file first, then don't bother adding chapter cues. You can, and you might get lucky and have the burn module see them as scenes.

Hi Ron

I totally agree with you, my experience with Corel Support is nothing short of a joke.
I could go into details but they just don’t listen, I don’t think they understand English.
All of my contact with Support (other than back in VS 7 days and Ulead) has ended in a similar manner with Corel closing the complaint. I just gave up……

The chapter points, well I don’t use them, so its no a problem for me.
I could never understand why you could create them in the editor anyway, I firmly believe it should be part of the Create Disc function.

Thanks for the update................

Placing the Chapter cues in the editor is not something unique in VS. Other NLEs allow you to do this. I think by design, it works only if you use your project file, jumping straight into the burn module (Share>Create Disc). They do need to fix the labeling part. If you name the chapters then they should also be carried into the burn module.

I cannot get VSPro X4 to create chapters not matter what I do... I can create chapters in timeline or remove them all and add new ones in "create disc" but they never transfer to the create menu section....

Thank you for replying but I am not permitted to create them in "create disc" mode other than to do an auto create. But anyway it is done they do not show up as menu items.

You cannot add a chapter to the first frame. This chapter has already been created.
Move the curser or play the video.
The Add Chapters should become available.

Trevor, thank you for helping... Here is what I found:

*My Chapters created on the timeline come through un-named after clicking the edit/ad chapters button
*I had to click next to menu and preview
*Then I had to check advanced settings and uncheck add main menu.
*Then the main menu which was empty would disappear and my untitled menu would be the only menu left
*I could then edit the untitled heading and change chapter 1 to the name I wanted

This is not exactly the best way to do it but at least I can now create and name chapters. The advanced settings option for main menu is sticky past shut down so I am good to go. I now creat chapters in timeline I just don't bother nameing them, that has to what for the burn...

Thanks again Trevor and Ron P, for your help and I hope this helps others.

Hi

In a way I think Corel have it wrong in allowing us to create chapter points in the edit timeline.
The burner module is where menus are created and should be where we create the chapter points, just my opinion…….

Yes you can create them in the main timeline, and they will also be available after doing Share Create Disc.
They are also available after Share Create Video File –DVD, The Mpeg being embedded with the chapter details,
unfortunately different versions react a little differently. So some work and others not.

Ron and myself performed extensive tests using X2, X3 and X4, somewhere on the forum is the post?
X4 did not work with the Mpeg2 chapter approach.

So long as you have it working and are happy with the results that’s all that counts.
Its really a matter of hitting the mouse in the right places.

By the way, removing the main menu is only possible if you have a single clip within the main menu.
I don’t use chapter points but prefer to create individual video files, adding them to the burner module.
This creates a main/title menu containing several links, and i can then use the Navigation Controls which allows me to choose how the disc reacts to the menu.

I had not thought of that approach to video production but I will have to give it a spin... Thanks
