I have VideoStudeo Pro x4 SP1 (ver 14.1.0.107) and get this error most everytime I try to play the project after adding just a few clips. It hasn't happened when playing individual clips. I am working with MTS files copied from my Sony HDR-CX160 HD Camcorder. The Sony manual describes them as "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 AVCHD compatible (1080 60p/original format)". I know there have been other similar posts, but after reading them, I wasn't clear on what I might try to overcome this problem.
I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the program using VS_ Cleanup.exe. Without SP1, I did not get the "unspecified error" message. However, my PC would lock up every few minutes while I was working on the project. Once I added SP1, the lockups stopped, but the "unspecified error" messages returned. This also happened in X3. I upgraded to X4 in hopes the issue would go away.
I have opened a case with Corel, but haven't received a response yet. I have also seen questions on how to send the "Dump" files to Corel. Once you open a case, you can log in to review it, and then there is a link to add an attachment. When you click on it, it opens up a new message in your e-mail client addressed to MyCaseSupport@corel.com and the subject line is automatically populated with the case number followed by the case subject as entered during the original submisssion.

Not sure if this is related to the other “Unspecified Error”, but it may be worth a shot. You can follow the steps from this link.

Re: X4 - The program has encountered an unspecified error
Thank you for the reply, but your suggestion didn't work. My error occurs when playing back a project sortly after I start creating it, not when burning a DVD.
Nelson from Corel support made the same suggestion in an e-mail Monday, and asked me to send a NFO file if it didn't work. I sent that and another copy of the DMP file and haven't had any response since. I just paid $40 to upgrade to X4, but haven't been able to use the program.
One thing I have discovered: If I uninstall and reinstall X4 without SP1, I don't get the same error when playing projects, but my computer freezes every few minutes and requires a hard restart.
I would appreciate any other suggestions anyone may have.

Re: X4 - The program has encountered an unspecified error
I haven't gotten a reply yet to the latest NFO and DMP files I supplied to Corel tech support, but I found a solution through trial and error.
I went into VS Settings - Preferences - Performance and unchecked "Use Hardware Decoder acceleration" under Editing settings. After several hours of use, I haven't had any crashes.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO ME TOO.. I also use a Sony HD camcorder, the HXR-MC50U! This individual also uses a sony camcorder. Wonder if the issue is with the video created by the sony camcorder.

Re: X4 - The program has encountered an unspecified error
... And have you tried the potential solution of unchecking harware acceleration as suggested above?

Yup, and it worked. Now I have another issue that i posted in the other thread and won't bother posting it here.
