Can't export MP4 at high resolution

Post by ericabiz »

I have a screen capture video which is 1024x768. I want to edit it and export as .mp4 in its same resolution--1024x768. You would think this would be easy, but it's grayed out. I tried Settings, create a custom export format and it was grayed out there too. How do I export my 1024x768 video as 1024x768 .mp4? And why the heck is this so complicated?

Welcome to the forums, :)

Try another road, the Share>Create Video File>Custom one.
  • Select Custom at the bottom of the menu.
  • In the Create Video File dialog window, set the File type to QuickTime Movie Files *.mov,*.qt.
  • Now press the Options button
  • Go to the Compression tab, and hit the drop-down menu for Compression. Select MPEG-4 Visual.
  • Go to the General tab, select the User Defined radial, and type in your desired resolution.
  • Change the frame rate if needed,
  • You may need to enter the audio compression information too. If so this is done at the bottom of the Compression tab. Press the audio button, in the next dialog that opens, set the audio compression to 24, 32, 32 Floating or 64-bit integer, and type in 48.000 into the Rate box, and you should have 16-bit Stereo selected. It's a bit fiddly, as some codecs do not allow for certain rates.
You didn't say so I'll ask, did you try to see if the option was available for Same as First Video Clip?

I was also going to suggest "Same as first video", but then again, there is nothing to suggest his original screen capture was in mpeg-4 format. Could ericabiz please tell us the original format?

Thanks--I was able to use the QuickTime codec; however, it turns into a .mov file. Can I just rename this into a .mp4 or do I need to use a converter like SUPER to get it into .mp4 format?

My original file is a 1024x768 .wmv (I know, yuck, but that's what GoToMeeting produces...I *do* have it set up so at least it's a standard .wmv and not their god-awful G2M3 codec.)

P.S. I'm female.

Ms. Erica, (you know it's nearly impossible to tell on forums)

You certainly can try replacing the MOV extension with mp4 and see if it still plays well in your software media player. I would think it would, since it is using the mpeg-4 codec.
